Default CCW drag pack high speed stability?

Is there anyone here who does alternative forms of racing that is on drag packs that regularly hits 180 or so mph? Wondering how stability is at those speeds, also curious about the braking with the skinny front wheels...seems to me they would lock up easily and give ABS fits.

The fastest I have been on mine was 163 mph with the M&H Racemaster front bias plies, they are dead stable on straight, smooth roads... I didn't try to brake excessively quick though.. The tires squat pretty hard with the nose weight on them(braking nose dive)... I don't think I'd try any short distance braking tests with them...

I would have no concern running 180mph on them on a straight, smooth road.. Bumpy, grooved roads will upset them some though.. Drag strip and run way stuff I think they are fine.... 180+ on a public road, I'd probably stick with a radial like the M&H 185/55/17 or the Hoosier 185 radial. Also the MT Sportsman SR radial.

None of which would I want to emergency stop on.

Are you talking about alternative forms of racing across the border?

I have the 16" CCW Front runners with 4.5" wide Firestone Bias Plys. The car seems to track straighter with these tires vs the wider street tires. I've been over 160 mph on them for short bursts and stability is not an issue. Slowing down at the dragstrip hasn't been a problem either.

However, any type of emergency stops or hard cornering maneuvers would be out of the question. If you are planning to use them on a runway or at a rolling event that has a good shutdown area, the drag pack shouldn't be an issue. On the street, I would be make sure to be very familiar with the area before making a blast, i.e., no side road access and zero same lane traffic up ahead. It may also be a good idea to know who you are racing and what kind of traction both cars have on the racing surface.

Sorry for all the prerequisites and I'm sure you already know all of them. I just don't want to see any fellow racers have an accident because something goes wrong in the heat of the moment. Most of the time it's another driver that gets in the mix and causes things to go south.

I would think your suspension, would be something to add to your question(coilovers-etc).

I've been to a little over 160 on my ccw drag pack. 16's front and back with street radials up front. No issues with tracking straight on the street with a smooth straight road. I guess I haven't ever hit the brakes hard enough to activate ABS with them on, but no issues slowing down.

Shoot Ty a note. He ran a ccw drag pack for years in Mexico...

I can tell you this on the street if the road is not good and has bumps in it. You can kiss your azz end good by the car starts going like from side to side in the rear on the 28 inch tall tire with a soft side wall tire.

Plus it will make your ABS go crazy with a 4 1/2 rim and tire on the front going around much of a corner.

No problems here with a 9 lb. Bogart and skinny tire, I also have smaller brakes all around.

IF I was to run that kind of MPH, I think I would change the tires from M&H fronts / Hoosier rears to Et streets all around. A bit heavier but I'd personally feel better

I pulled all of mine off, got me a new set of CCW 500sp just to wild of a ride running a roll race starting at 60 to 70 MPH then going 1/8 mile or a 1/4 race on the street. Azz end almost every time at 150 plus feels like air is moving the car from side to side way to much to feel safe. Now with the CCW and back to a regular size on the front and a 345x45x18 on the rear feel great. Robert
