Default Propane Injection

I have been hearing a lot about propane injection lately and the benefits of running this setup on engines with forced induction. I know that a lot of guys that run nitrous on their Vipers are using it along with some friends of mine with turbo supras and stealths. I was wondering if anyone is actually using propane injection on their corvette and what type of power is actually attainable from this mod. Also, does anyone know if this would help a car without boost?? I figured that it defenitely couldn't hurt it.

Explosive stuff. Crash and burn.

I'd recc running a fuel cell in the back and pumping race fuel into it. Use as needed. Safer. Water/Alky injection to control detonation under boost would be safer also. Depends what u are doing.

I agree with Mello. Water/Alcohol injection would be much safer and do the same exact thing. IMO it would be too risky.

I think it is kind of a gimmick. I disagree w/ those that say it's unsafe/explosive. I agree that it's explosive and flamable, but not anymore than the 18.5 gallons of gas that are right behind your behind! :jester Propane is very clean burning and high octane. It is a good alternative fuel, but the benifits of it's use in our cars are outwayed by the availability and relatively low gasoline prices.

In short, stick w/ the tried and true. Don't fall for these gimmicks that are here today gone tomorrow.

I'm not saying it's just gonna go boom by itself.. but where you going to put it? Out back? Not where I'd want it in a rear end collision..

It should be more flammable than regular gas eh? Burns faster/stronger.

I wouldn't want it near me in a rollover either.
It's all a balance of risk tho and what you are comfortable with.

Diesel folks are the ones who are primarily using propane. It is easy to rig a propane injector, ince many diesel applications can run dual mode. You spray the propan on top, and you get a bid power increase. The only problem is kepping EGTs under control.

Propane does make a lot of BTUs, and so, consequently a lot of heat. I have seen plenty of GM truck motors (5.7L) that run propane. In most cases, these motors had HD parts.

Star series or Stellite seats.
Sodium filled exhaust valves

I don't know what the Supra or import guys are doing these days with it. One of the nice things about it, is that Propane is about 122 Octane. So, you can run it in a high compression motor instead of race gas. It also burns fairly clean.

And no, a good propane fuel system is not any more of a bomb than a gas tank, in fact probably less so.

I have friend who do propane conversions for American pickups that they ship to Europe. It much cheaper over there than gas, and its emissions friendly...
