Balancer help
Alright guys. School me on balancers, keying the crank, what I need and why? It seems a lot of FI guys are running the IW which is pretty pricey, though it is very pretty. I see 8,10 rib combos, which one would be sufficient for a 10-12lb set up?
I don't have a flip drive currently and won't until next year most likely. Can you run a 6 rib blower pulley with 10 rib balancer?
I would still have to run a 6 rib belt but be able to change over later?
What about keying and double keying the crank?

I ran 14# on my old ECS kit with a 6 rib.
Yes, you can run an x rib balancer with a 6 rib blower pulley.
ATI or IW are the two popular options for more ribs.
You can't "key" your crank without removing it. So everyone pins them. Whatever kit you get should come with a pinning kit and new crank bolt as they are not reusable. Some double pin but thats only if you're going full retard, in which case you'll have a built motor with a keyed crank anyhow. If you run a keyed balancer without a key be sure to put some RTV on the back side of the balancer bolt/washer or oil will leak past.
