I was wondering what anybody with those car runs in the quarter mile.. I saw a 550 tt for sale and he said he ran 10.3? How did he accomplish that? Also what were the +++ stand for after the 550 tt title.. Sorry for the dumb questions but i'm really interested in what this car run out of the box on streets tires from lingenfelter, anybody with the car please comment :) P.S. - I own a 2002 Z06
The only way that car can cover a quarter mile in 10.30 seconds is if it's towed behind a 6000hp funny car!!!! In the recent C&D 10,000 HP Shootout, Lingenfelters 650 hp tt could only muster a 12.30 run....and thats with 335 oversize street tires!! The 550 tt is 550BHP...only 467 RWHP....10.30 seconds is a GROSS exageration of that cars performance.

I can assure you the 650TT in that shootout can and would do MUCH faster than a 12.3:yesnod:. That car would belong to NOEXCUSES on this forum. Dont tell him his car ONLY runs 12.3 :nono:. Shoot him an email for some more accurate numbers on a 550TT or even his car. His car IS WICKED!!! :smash: I am, however, not sure about the 550TT you guys are referring to. Sorry. :seeya
So basically this 550 tt package is not very productive and for the money i can get a 422 and run faster in the quarter mile then lingenfelter tt.... very amusing...
if anyboyd has any info to contradict any of this I would love to hear it
boyd here,
You can also get a Mustang for under 10k to beat it.
LPE 550 TT leave with right at 500 rwhp and WILL
pass emissions and DOES idle like a stock car
and DOESN'T have that raw fuel smell that most
of the big cammed or solid cammed 422s I have seen
make that kind of power do, and it DOES have a 2yr warranty.
I have not seen a stock 550 run a 10.3 but have seen them run
close to 11 flat in the mid 120s and if you would like to
bring your 422 to run my 12.3 car, I can accomodate.

As the article mentioned John was probably sandbagging off the line because nothing short of ET Streets will hold a launch with higher rpms. I have first hand experience of a 550 with additional ($$) boost is running 10.5's all day long. DJ Self has run as low as 10.3 and personally ran a 10.5 against me.
BTW. His car is for sale in the C5 Sale section. :D

I don't know if a Stage I TT can reach the 10's but LT1pwrd'94 is definitly correct about the LPE TT in the shootout. That car could definitely get into the 10's under the right conditions. There have been many situations that John or his driver have elected to feather it in order not to risk poor times, far worse than 12's, due to wheel spin. Its best to be conservative knowing that the other cars will do the same. And isn't that what exactyly happened? Check out the 850 hp viper. Even Look at the 911 in that article. The 911's are known for sensational hooking ability - probably the best out there. Yet still, it finished in the, what, high 11's?
Notice that EVERY car in the Car and Driver supertest did much worse in the 1/2 mile and 0-60 runs than you would expect. the 650 TT did 12.3 in the quarter, even though C&D tested a magnason SC vette back in April at 11.7 in the quarter (LPE says that the 550 TT is slightly faster in the 1/4 than the SC and the 650 faster still. Similarly, the stock three they tested (911 turbo, viper, zo6) did worse than other tests. In the article, they allude to a slow track/day that might have had cars "a couple of tenths" slower than in other tests. I think it is more than that.

Re: How fast is a 550TT?? (Sir Sel)
DJ Self is the LPT Twin turbo car that you guys are referring to that has run a 10.3 at 135mph. That is an accurate factual statement and his car is currently for sale in the C5 for sale section. In his add for sale he mentions that he has an upgraded package making considerably more ponies than the standard 550. D.J. Self's car is the real twin turbo 10.3 quarter mile deal! Someday, it is my C5 dream/goal, to be running a similar set with similar times. :D
Need money to start a new record lable. I hope to do the same thing to a C5 by this spring. I love this car and will have a LPE TT again.(Just need the money now......
What was done to this car to run 10.3 and 10.5 in the quarter with street tires??? I can't find it anywhere, additioncally was done and is lingenfelter covering it under their warranty?
From what I know a boost controller, upgraded fuel system and traction via drag slick or drag radials. I assume no warranty with the boost controller. Regardless, notice the MPH a little more tweaking and that car could very well dip to see a 9.9x ET.
Car & Driver July 2001, Z06 Twin Turbo Stage I, 550hp
1/4 11.5 @ 133 street tires
0-150 14.9
Times were achieved by skipping 2nd gear due to wheelspin.

My wife and I were at the C5 birthday bash in Bowling Green KY. and we witnessed the same yellow TT that was in C&D run a 10.3? @ 137.?? mph with a stick. That same car has run faster.
The 550TT has a boost controller and you can turn the power up.(+++) It also is a A/T and the boost will stay up the entire run. It will drop no matter how quick you can shift with a stick. Several of my friends were at the track and they said he ran 10.4? at 134.?? at a Vette shoot-out without a 6,000 H/P car pushing it.
At a local Viper/ Vette shoot out I took a MPH pass and ran a 12.03 @ 134.95. Drove through 1st & 2nd and then nailed it in 3rd gear. Gave up some MPH and a ton of E/T by not leaving hard, but would of blown the tires off it. This was done in a LPE TT also.
