Default help! please

so i am running a ECS S/C setup ...with the temps over 100 as of late i was wondering if i installed the C5 CORVETTE (SHORT) radiator in my C5Z would i notice a reduction in cooling? also if i could somehow put my stock lower radiator support back in instead of the ECS one..thanks !!!

Does it have a schroud?

Sorry bad joke! There are lots of threads on running cooler, hopefully someone who can actually answer your specific question will chime in.

No I was referring to a schroud thread that turned into a sh,t show, sorry

But someone who knows will chime in I'm sure, I know from reading, most use a combination of a short radiator/spal fans, oil cooler, trans cooler, or a hole where the license plate goes with a screen, one or sometimes all of them,

Good luck

Look for the schroud thread while your waiting.......you will be entertained

half of an intercooler should keep it cool... if you keep the ecs cradle you can fit a full size dewitts radiator and easily get a 4" inlet on the blower or you could put your stock cradle in and either get the cut down radiator or have the mounts on your stock cradle cut and rewelded back on to fit a full size radiator and 4" inlet... I would definitely get the air dam back on the car if it is missing as that helps funnel air to your radiator

Don't rely soley on just a Dewitts radiator/fans to solve the problem...

The problem, is air flow to the radiator. There is too much crap in front of the radiator to bottom feed it and not enough open area in the nose to front feed it. The problem is worse with an iron block. AC is the killer.

There is a lot of threads about this because most of us have the same problem and no real solution.... Lots of mods/band aids and hopeful fixes.... C5s are way more prone to this then C6s since they have a real grill.

I will be beta testing the Dewitts 17" single brushless fan on a custom shroud that Dewitts built for me in the next couple weeks and see if it helps the low speed cooling over the dual Spal 12s. I have my doubts about it helping but..I had to try something. My car seems to exhibit this high coolant temp thing to the extreme. My cradle has been modified and it really lost air space between the radiator and the intercooler. I'm going to do a few other things as well in regards to shrouding/sealing and directing air flow to the radiator. I already have almost ALL off the "cooling mods" and the temps have never really improved.

If you live where its 95*+ and running the AC all the time, you are going to run hot at idle if you have an intercooler in front of the radiator on a C5...

There is a lot of opinions on this cooling issue and some things that "solved" the problems for some, didn't help a bit for others, so don't run out and buy everything you hear about.

I definitely will..

I'm actually kicking around the idea of starting a massive C5 cooling thread, mainly so we can gather lots of data from tests/mods/improvements and have them all in one place. If we get enough good info, maybe the mods will sticky it.

I went through this same thing with my 71'... C3 big block cars are notorious for running hot, even when new, and after enough tests/tweaks, I managed to get mine to stay under 190* at all times, even in 100* temps with the AC blasting...it will idle there all day, that's with an iron block/iron head 650hp 496.

I'm going to try to employ some of those tactics I used on the the 71, on the C5Z, however I don't have a 3.5" thick intercooler sitting in front of the radiator on the 71' like on the C5Z so....its a whole different ball game.

We'll see how it goes. Its 100*+ here right now and my C5Z is averaging 220* on the highway and 235*+ at idle in traffic with the AC so, I'm determined to get the temps down.

damn that is very impressive on the 71' ...with my modded center air shroud i managed with the ac on in 100* i got it to set at 205 at a light and 201 down the hwy..still hotter then i like...gonna test my new mod with no ac on here in a bit

Those temps are outstanding for 100* air with AC on... I would be ecstatic with that. Hell even if it hit 220* at a light with the AC on but stable there, you are well within the safe zone....

When I had my stock LS6 engine with an old school A&A D1sc, it would maintain similar temps....Even idling in traffic it would stay at 215* or less... That was with the stock cradle, radiator and fans..

When I did the new build with the iron block, modded cradle, Dewitts/dual spals, that's when my temps took off...

200-205 degree temps are fine in my opinion and nothing to worry about
