Installed a meth kit from ecs now problems again
I recently installed the ecs 1500 kit on my 98 6 speed vette. All was great until 4th gear when the knock sensors were pulling 9 degrees of timing out. After talking to a few people it was come to the conclusion that I needed to install meth injection on the car. So I ordered a kit from ecs and installed it the other night. The kit required me to move the maf sensor from directly behind the throttle body to on top of the inter cooler. Which I did. The problem I am havin now is that even with the meth controller turned off my car is acting all screwed up. Under acceleration the power cuts in and out almost like there is too much turbulence on the maf. I don't know what is going on. It is surging pretty bad under light pedal and completely falls on its face when the pedal is pushed then takes off fast then cuts out. I'm pulling my hair out with this car because I have spent allot of money on I this setup in the last 2 months for it to not even run properly. Ugh. Help. And yes all my clamps are tight. When it would take off fine I was seeing 10 psi on my gauge.
The MAF gets too much turbulence near the exit of the intercooler. I just went through that myself. The MAF needs a straight, smooth length of pipe before it or you will get surging and other issues. You have to either move it back to a better place or go with an SD tune. You should have room for the MAF in a good place with the meth nozzles after it.
I took the car for another ride tonight and now it seems fine. The only thing I can think of is when I initially started it the battery was almost dead and every light was on in the dash. Maybe it reset the memory for the maf and had to relearn? Should I go against what ecs said about the maf location? If the problem persists I was going to cut the charge pipe and move the maf to right before the meth nozzle.
Also I was told you can't do a sd on a 1998. Thought you need a 99 or newer pcm. When I had it tunes after the supercharger I had surging on light throttle and it was directly after the throttle body
you better stop before u break something.. it pulling 9 deg in 4th gear, doesn't automatically mean u need meth.. sounds like it is to much timing in it. yes these motors love and work well with meth but it has to be set up properly. do you have a wideband in the car? u need to go back to your tuner...
If the MAF location has been changed you need to at least check out current AFR's and see what you're getting. I know, same amount of air.. you'd think it wouldn't matter, but it can depending on how the air goes through it. Tons of turbulence right after the intercooler so I wouldn't trust it without putting a wideband on it and checking things out.
Car is going back to the tuner on Tuesday to get tuned for the meth. I haven't tuned it. I just data logged it at the track because something didn't feel right. Installing the meth was not a guess at the issue. After talking to Doug and Alex at ecs and my tuner and a few sea foam treatments it was decided that meth was likely needed. And ecs knows my tuner.

Sounds like you will be all set after you see your tuner, but if I can help in anyway let me know.
