marked problem on exaust vavle
On my fi (18psi) cammed (#640 lift) ls1 with ported 241, i saw marked exaust valves (wear at the top of the locker place) last time (1 year ago) i pull the head
So, i swaped with good used valves
And now, just 7500 miles after, same problem...
I search and see it s quite a common problem (but dont see any pic) cause oem vavle have hardener tip weld...
So...
Common... normal... but without any risk ??????
Can i keep with stock eom marked valve ?
Should i buy manley hardener exaust stock size valve ?
Should i pay for a valve job to go from 1.55 to 1.6 inch if i need new valves (same price for the valve)
Should i pay for biggest (from 2 to 2.055) intake valve/valve job on the head since le limitation on 853 catedral ported head is the intake valve ?
Also, what does it cost the valve job for go from 1.55/2 to 1.6/2.055 ???

And good aftermarket valves arent expensive, if you're concerned about existing valves, replace them
Whether larger valves on stock un-modified seats/ports will yield any benefit or not...could be debated and it will require a machine shop to cut the new seats.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Now that doesnt look good at all !
It doesnt even look even all the way around ?
What valves are they ? What rockers etc ? lifters ? is lifter pre-load set correctly ?
only exaust valve (have seen the same story on another LS forum)
stock rockers, with trunion upgrade on stock LS1 head
brand new LS7 lifter
have check the lenght of the pushrod
all cam kit from ed curtis (FTI) cause special cam spec (#640 lift, double PAC spring, ...)
More than 1000$
And it s only for the job
I have to find and pay for new guides and new (better than OEM) exhaust valve...
Too expensive, right ?
Prices for work outside of the US will tend to be a lot more expensive.
What heads are you using ? Are they standard or have they had work done ?
The mecanic who let me work in this garage think i should change them...
The bill speak about resurfacing as (i think) they put on all bill... it's why i dont want pay the this expensive bill
It's just LS1 head i have hand port myself 1 year ago (40 hours of job)
So, i'm think to just try to buy good aftermarket exaust valve (As the Manley for exemple) in Europe and just change them (dont find the good shop right now)
And with various machining costs and replacement parts....there will come a point when it's almost as easy just to buy a new pair of heads already built up.
eg ( there are cheaper using factory castings )

But replacement valves are not expensive, if you get them same size as current valves, and the seats are in good order, there should be no need to have the seats re-cut.
I've read that we can put 1.57 exaust valve instead 1.55 stock size with STOCK SEAT
But should the seat be machined ???
(dont find any goog site in Europe, i m going to test the jegs ebay shop)
You could install various valve sizes with the stock seat, replacing seats is a big job.
I would doubt there are any good suppliers in Europe ( there are none in the UK )
Occasionally some people have second hand stuff here

So, i have buy some manley at the stock size
Will receive them in 2 days (perhaps), so saturday will be install on my engine, and sunday put the engine in the car... just enouth time for return home happy (if no problem) sunday night to get my plane for Paris...
Thanks a lot
Hope everything will be good now ^^

I run Manley extreme duty exhaust in my LS3/YSi. We have run Manley valves in our oval track engines for years and years.. good stuff imo. Ferra seems good too.
