Since I installed a front splitter, my C5 went from being a bottom breather to a front breather. I opened up the license plate and fog lamp area. This did ok for a while but now that I have Ysi pushing 25psi I noticed that IAT's can get up there pretty quick. Its hard to get air to the coolers on these cars but I got the idea of opening up the bottom of the bumper like I have seen in road raced cars with the ACI splitter. So today I built up the courage to cut the bumper. I used sheet metal to extend the splitter to the intercooler to direct the airflow. So im hoping that in combination with the A&A radiator shroud and Trackspec hood vents will help keep the air flowing through all the coolers. Gonna test it tomorrow on the highway and this weekend in the canyons.
that's looks pretty decent how it turned out. What did you use to make the cut?
It turned out really well. Drove the car today and saw an average of 15* lower temps and up to 20* lower coolant temps earlier in the day. It was 90* outside too. So, so far I have to say the mod is working even better than I expected.
To make the cut I used a Dremel with a cutting wheel and also a utility knife or sheetrock knife as some call it. I finished the edges with door guard trim you can get at any parts store.
Drove the car yesterday and even in 90* heat I saw temps as much as 20* lower and averaged about 15* lower on the hwy. Averaged a good 10* lower on the streets at lower speeds. So im pretty happy with the results. Drove for 45min straight on the hwy and didnt break 199* coolant temps during midday.
Natie, if you're running that kind of boost, you could also benefit from a nice 4.5" thick intercooler. If you PM Mike04, you can ask him about his IAT drops by simply switching to my intercooler. You obviously possess the skill to install it.

Looks good. I think you should, at a minimum, spray paint black that white plastic fender washer for the foam. Stage 2 would be to trim the foam so you can see more intercooler. Stage 3: Delete foam and just add a support bar/ air deflector.

I've definitely been thinking of a bigger intercooler and had my eyes on the procharger unit. With the big blower on a small motor the temps climb high at the end of a pull. Wanted to see how much of a difference opening the bumper makes on iat's.
Feel free to pm me details
