Default New Engine Recommendations

I cracked my ls6 block last night putting my new head bolts in and now I am looking for a replacement. I have a D1SC procharger with a comp cams blower cam and my ls6 heads. I would like to use everything I currently have except the block and the internals. Thinking of getting a forged assembled small block. What stroke would work good with a D1SC?

There are several options depending on what your goals are.
If you are using your stock top end then you could go with a forged 383 stroker LS1/6 short block.

Going with a LS2 with a forged stroker rotating assembly allows you to use the later top end with larger valves and rectangular ports.

Have you spoken to your machine shop about this?

Yeah. I just spoke to him again and he thinks that with my budget and power goals that a forged 383 would be best. So now I have to find a place to buy one.

I'd say stock displacement ls2 with forged rotating assembly. Pulley it down and let the blower make the hp.

I would stay with what you know best LS6 block with 4 inch stroke. You don't want anymore problems.

Yea anytime you change the heads it's very critical to make sure the bolts holes are clean and dry. Before torqued down.

Yeah I think I am going to stick with the ls1/6 block. I want it to be as straight forward as possible. Take everything out. Put all accessories and heads on new block and put it back in.

Why are all the blocks I am seeing GM L33 Blueprinted core blocks that are bored to 5.7? Will everything bolt on properly from my ls6.

I know GM does not make the LS1/LS6 blocks anymore, you might have to start looking on Ebay, craigslist or junkyards to get one used. They need to be inspected by a reputable machinest or engine builder.

I have a D1SC about 8lbs of boost on a 2002 A4 with an LS6 block. The previous owner said they had it just over 900hp at motor with a different pulley. My car has ported stage III patriot 243 heads blower cam and 3.42 gears. Very fun to drive.

The 900 hp was with the first generation procharger setup bracket. The belt snapped off and tore the under hood lining.

Thanks, do you know if the L33 is a direct replacement? I am going to start googling it now.

Just found this.. "Your L33 engine is based on the LS6 engine which has the cam sensor at the back of the engine."

Looks like I should be good.

No I do not know. Also regarding your previous post you better get an oil cap breather, that's why you blew out your rear main seal. Too much pressure. That pressure needs to escape. Get an oil cap breather from metco motorsports.

Because the same thing happen to me, when I got an breather oil temps went down as well.

There is somewhat of a scarcity of LS1/6 blocks as they went out of production after the gen 4 engines came out.

As far as fitment goes there is plenty of information on the web.

That is a pretty good find. He is in Bowling Green KY. That could be an interesting visit.

It is listed as pick up only but the block only weighs around 85Lbs. It would be nice if he could ship it.

If he could bolt ply-wood over the mounting surfaces for protection and screw some handles to it then it could probably be shipped Fed Ex.

I carried my block into the machine shop and I am not a big guy.

Yeah thanks i will def reach out to him. It would be worth it if I got a good price because then I would have to buy a rotating assembly for a couple grand and who knows how much for machine shop to balance and install it.

The machine shop probably gets a better deal than you do on engine internals. Let them deal with that mess.

Machine shops are generally inexpensive. It is when you go through a mechanic shop first that things get expensive. They end up sending it to a machine shop then charging you double.
