Dont get me wrong, I do need better tires for sure but I believe the major problem is the suspension. I will report back once I get the Viking double adjustable coil overs.

R888s are now your every day driving tires and you’ll need some 17” DRs for the track. If you can pony up the cash for the 15” conversion that would be even better.

My car hooks just fine on R888's street and strip with DRM Bilsteins shocks, GM T1 sway bars, and 650rwhp. Using a Vortech v3 Si

He has almost 20% more horsepower than you do so it's not really apples to apples. You could also have a much better driver mod...

I understood the difference in power, but it seemed like the discussion was based around his suspension. My point was that if he's wheelhopping on the street also, it's not the suspension. I can blow my tires away just fine on the street if I use poor throttle management, but it doesn't wheelhop.

No one ever wants to hear this, but the best tire at the drag strip for a stick shift vette is a bias ply tire. You will run the best and most reliable times with this tire if you know how to launch the car and can make the shifts. It also goes without saying you will need to be on a well prepped track. The next best possible times will occur using a drag radial but the technique is trickier and broken driveline parts are a higher possibility. I would not choose the R888 for the drag strip unless you just wanted to make a pass and had nothing else, especially with 800rw on tap.

I will go drag radial, Ill never go bias ply because its still a DD in the summer. R888s where bought do to reviews but then again those are reviews from people making low 600s, not 800s. I just wanted to make a pass. I thought it would at least hook in second.

I have suspension goodies on the way from Brett that I will install over this weekend. Im stoked to run at the track one more time before the seasons over.

I can't remember his username, but there's a guy on the forum jbsblown something or other (name is Joel) who does a lot of 1/2 mile events also uses R888's and has 800rwhp. He has no traction issues in 1/2 mile or road racing. I still think the tires will hold just fine, but maybe not 2nd if you're slamming it into gear like most people do at the dragstrip. Still, he may be worth asking since he has similar power.

Which track? Are you local to Minnesota. Reason I ask is on another thread you said you fix a lot of tunes from DRM?

Yes, it's all about the power and how it is delivered. Another factor is how much torque the combo makes. A 600rw supercharged car usually barely makes over 500rwtq. My car would hook 1st gear at 550/550 on a 305/18 MT DR on the street. At 800rw, it would barely hook 3rd and all of 4th and at 1000rw it would spin violently even in 4th gear at 120mph.

Most of us have at least one extra set of wheels for the track with bias ply tires. I only go to the track 2 to 4 times per year depending on whether the car is running. It's worth it to be able to use full power in every gear and feel what the setup is really capable of doing.

I am. I was going to go to Rock Falls but I found out today they are closing for construction after this weekend. Might make the trek down to cedar falls late this year.

Turbo-Geist is correct. I was hard headed and tried to run my car on radials for a long time. I struggled to launch the car correctly and consistently. I finally gave in and switched to a set of bias plys (which I only use at the track) and its a difference of night and day. 60's have plummeted and the car leaves worlds better. Ill never go back to a radial at the track for a manual car. Radials on the street and Bias Ply at the track is the proper setup for a manual.
