Supposedly with additional Hp you can snap the left side differential shaft. Any one every break one with a street driven car? I'd like to know.or is it just something to buy which you dont't need.
I've been investigating this myself. While I'm no authority on the subject, I haven't heard of anyone ever breaking one of the street. I think you need a decent amount of horsepower and traction!
The kind of traction that you'd only get at the track, IMO

Re: snapped driveshaft? (MyFirstCorvette)
If you read all the drag-related threads from guys with 500+ RWHP, the topic of hook-up (traction)is usually a big issue. I have noticed that those big HP cars with good hook-up usually have drag tires and/or well prepped tracks.
Simple physics tells you that the wheels will be the first to break-loose with all that HP without ultra-sticky tires. If your Big HP set-up is designed for the street and not a pure track/drag car, wheel spin will be your biggest challenge and concern, not breaking output shafts.
On the street my car is useless, with the amount of power, and at the strip with the slicks on, last weekend I broke an aftermarket hardened output shaft. As long as you only intend to street drive your car, you should get enough wheel spin, not to affect the shaft. Mine was fine on the street, once I started makeing 1/4 mile runs though with slicks, that was all she wrote!! :(
Mostly necessary for the track, slicks and drag radials.
I was going to pass on ordering one for my new 3.90 gears.. But looks like LPE has one on special for $250. If your diff is out of the car for some reason, that's a hard price to pass up.
This is the point I was trying to make when I posted my opinion of why C-5's are not suitable for drag racing especially the clutch cars, Don't get me wrong here, I'm not slamming vette's or anyone that owns one as I'm very fond of mine. But there is a practical limit to the power that can be used effectively. But this opinion would not apply to the folks that believe that nothing exceeds like excess.
I broke mine with a set of Drag Radials and stock engine. :cry
