Default Fire suppression

Hey guys. Im thinking the more money I sink into this dope *** 19 year old car the more I should protect it. What are some good fire suppression systems I can have in the car? Im going to start with a fire extinguisher, but whats a good brand I can rely on?

Stroud has some nice kits and are fairly well known. I’ve been looking at their kits as well

I run a redundant backup 10# and a 5# foam fire system in mine. 2 bottles but the space lost isnt anything compared toa fire. I use the Aafm firefox system, i think thats the brand

Priced nicely too.

Are guys guys keeping these in the engine bay or running them in the cabin too? I was thinking engine bay and keeping a fire extinguisher in the cabin.

My car will have both engine bay and cabin. I haven’t yet decided on the brand, but Stroud is a front runner.

Most racing organization rules require a nozzle driver feet facing firewall and 2 nozzles (one each side of engine) facing firewall in engine bay,

I keep an amerex 5lb halotron extinguisher in mine... do not get a dry chemical extinguisher if you want to save the parts, they are good at putting out fires but leave a nasty residue that is nearly impossible to clean in some cases... halon and halotron will leave no residue

I think you or someone mentioned that when some meth caught fire in my engine bay. I had just used my extinguisher prior and it was empty. Luckily I got it out before I burned my car and house down.

Good to know!

I told my wife I wanted a fire suppression system becausee I had a leaky injector and the thought of tons of money going up in flames made me think of it. OMG! THE CAR COULD START ON FIRE?????????????????????!!!!!! THAT SOUNDS REALLY UNSAFE!!!!

lol

You have a link to that Reid?

yeah man it's scary to think about... after seeing other cars catch fire and burn to the ground it made me think why in the heck I waited so long... I also wanted a bigger one than the standard 2.5lb bottles, I wanted the biggest one I could comfortably fit inside the car... this is the one I got with the optional chrome cylinder, https://fireextinguisherdepot.com/am...ting-5b-c.html ... the mount it comes with will also bolt straight up to the mounts that go in front of the passenger seat that vendors sell, it will fit if you have stock seats but if you have aftermarket seats you might have to modify the bracket for it to clear

Thanks for the link. A lot more than I thought! Doesn’t come in black. Lame

I'm sure you could paint it, I didn't like the red either so went with the chrome but it was $200 when I bought it so the prices must have went up... maybe search around for that part # and see if you can find it cheaper

Bumping this back up as I'll be grabbing my Spa 4L mechanically activated AFFF extinguisher system this afternoon so I'll be posting some pics and impressions once I get home and get it unboxed.
