Default Installing built A4 and stall; keep 3.15s or go 3.42?

I have a 2001 with an A&A kit, an ECS small blower cam and long tube headers. I will be installing a 3000 stall built by Phoenix Transmissions and a Performabuilt Level 2 transmission. Car has 3.15 rear end from factory with around 70k miles.

I am installing the trans and stall myself. I have a 3.42 rear differential I could go ahead and install at this time if it would be worthwhile. What do you guys think? Would I be better off on the street with 3.15 or would the 3.42 be manageable?

I daily drive the car. I have wide rear quarters and a 335 Michelin SuperSport on it right now. I will likely go with 345 R888s for my next set. I'm just curious if it is worth installing the rear or if it'd be overkill. Should I sell the Phoenix converter and 3.42's and go with a Yank SS 3000? Not really sure how tough the Phoenix converter is, it was built with boost in mind when I bought it, but it is about half the cost of a Yank. Thanks

Go with the 3.42, you will be happy with your decision.

My Procharged 2000 C5 with auto transmission has 3.42 installed by the previous owner. Mine is comfortable on the street, and the rpms are about 2500 on my tachometer at 70 MPH driving on the highway. The only major advantage of the 3.15 is top speed. The 3.15 obviously permits the car to exceed 200 MPH (would redline at about 205) if car is highly modded for additional horsepower. The 3.42 limits top speed to about 185 at redline.

This all depends on how you drive and traction. I don't know how much horse power I have but have 3.15's and when I built the trans I opted to change first and second gear ratio's. I wish I had 2.73's or whatever that ratio was because I can't launch without spinning. I have pilot super sports and they are awesome and size is 305/30-19. I don't even get into boost and will be spinning them. You will not notice an oh my gosh difference if you have 3.15's now and want to go to 3.42's. Have some tuning done on transmission and you will like it. My 2 cents from a little of my experience.

I also have a 3500 stall from FTI. Engine is a little 402.

At 155mph in the 1/4, my setup with 3.42 and 28's is turning 7200rpm in 3rd. I'm looking at 3.15's to give it some breathing room to grow.
