SELF-INSTALLED SUPERCHARGER POLL
This Poll is for current SELF-INSTALLED Supercharged C5/z06 owners only. YOU ARE GRADING THE OVERALL QUALITY OF THE SUPERCHARGER, THE PERFORMANCE, RELIABILITY & THE EASE OF INSTALLATION . (professionally installed setups please vote in the PROFESSIONALLY INSTALLED S/C POLL)
I just finished installing my Magnuson SC and I found that anybody capable of changing their oil could install this supercharger if they had the proper tools, the supercharger came with very easy to follow step by step instructions :chevy
Well lets see. The installation went ok. It took a little longer than usual because i relocated the radiator to keep the stock fans in order to prevent any overheating problems, so that took a little time to position everything and then re-weld the brackets for the lower radiator support. The lower outer corner of the intercoolers was rubbing on the fenders so I cut about .250" off of the spacers to move the intercoolers inward. The belt on the lower idler pulley below the drive pulley on the supercharger was just about on the forward edge of the lip on the idler pulley so I took the idler pulley bracket off and took it to work and shaved .075" off of it which centered the belt perfectly. The blow off valve is a little too sensitive and causes a little momentary surging if your just right on the edge of making boost, I will probably end up changing it or modifying it to be a little more smooth. But all in all im happy with it. The above problems were minor and easily fixed. Ive got some tuning done and will be finishing tomorrow. So far with stock exhaust and the 4.63 pulley on, it pulled 573 rwhp and 470 rwtq at 10 psi and it was running way too rich and the timing still needs work. The stock exhaust was really restricting the air and wouldnt let it move fast enough. Ive just put the FLP header system on and will see how that goes tomorrow. I can already tell the psi has dropped to about 7 now just from changing to headers and high flow cats. The mufflers are still stock and i will probably keep them. I will post the results when its completed.
I get to vote in both categories. I am not satisfied the way the ATI Procharger Kit comes from the factory...install had many issues from (bracket dimensions, overheating, intercooler brackets that push out the front fascia..etc..). Modified it is excellent and produces more power than anything I have seen so far for the money and work involved. As for the actual blower install its not much different than putting on the alternator.
I'm satisfied with the ATI kit overall, except for the fact that the lower backside idler is now shredding my belt. I guess I need to remove the bracket and have it milled down. (input welcome!)
What I'm not as satisfied with is the level of support (none) from the company I purchased the kit from.
I am very happy so far with my Vortech set up. I have not gotten all the way up into the RPMS and boost yet due to programming problems. I am running too lean to get on it. I am hopeful that my programming will be worked out this week so that I can get it back on the dyno.
The ratio was 13.8 all the way to 5000 RPM. The shop did not want to take it higher because of the lean mixture. I need to get more tuning done but am having a hard time contacting Jim. I called Morgan Motor sports today and they will do it but I need to leave my car for a couple of days and pay again for tuning. It seems to drive well and runs very strong. I just don’t want to take any chances so I am holding back. I had set up for dyno work at Sho Shop last week but when I went in for my appointment the owner snubbed me and pretended not to of ever spoken to me. I would stay away from that shop. He is in Huntington Beach. I went to Superior in Anaheim. Very nice shop and Joe the owner’s son seemed very knowledgeable.
