I am in the process of installing a carroll supercharger kit.the mechanicals are done, now I just need a boost gauge.my problem is that I am only going to run 5-6psi of boost and I need a gauge where you can actually see the hand move.on a 30 psi gauge, 5-6psi would barely wiggle the needle.does anyone know of a vacum/boost gauge that is scaled to only 10-15psi?
I was looking at boost gauges with the same thoughts that you were having with needle movement. I was thinking about the gauge that Johnno in the thread prior to mine got but I didnt like it for 2 reasons. One was the price, it only comes in the electrical version which I might have still gotten it but I also didnt like the increments on the gauge. They are not accurate if you count the marks between the 5 and 10 you actually get 20. So you will have to extrapolate what boost youre really making and have to think about it everytime you get boost to think what the accurate number is. So I went with the mechanical boost gauge 4701. Not only was it much cheaper but it goes up to 20 pounds and the increments between the numbers match if you add them up and you still have quite a bit of needle movement. So you will be able to look at a quick glance and know what your boost is.
I have the same gauge and see the movement as well and it seems accurate, however since no one seems to be using more than 10 to 12# a 15 boost would be nice with larger numbers as you know its hard to keep your eye on the damn thing under boost as quick as the shift light goes off.
On my car the gauge moves from -25 to +10 lbs of boost. At full boost I really don't have time to watch the gauge. As long as I am able to take an occasional glance at it to be sure everything is working I feel that is enough.
