Have a 00 auto with a TiV1-3.25", cam, e85, ect. Recently just installed prc heads, lifters, return fuel setup, larger fp, , larger trans cooler, larger bov, new trans, and cut out my front plate filler for airflow. Cruising 70mph on the highway the other day, my oil Temp was 235 without any hard pulls, just normal driving. I feel like before the recent work I never saw anything over 210-220. My trans temp and coolant temp were good (trans 160, coolant 200) and oil pressure was 40+.
Wondering at what point should I start to worry? I'm worried about when I start to make heavy pulls that the oil temp will be an issue. When should I start to worry? Should I start thinking about an oil cooler, or am I just being paranoid for no reason?
235 is nothing to worry about, and where most people would be happy if they were tracking their car. You want your oil to get above 220 to boil out water. If you are regularly getting above 260 it is oil cooler time.
235 is a bit high. It's not necessarily a problem if you're running the right oil, but it's definitely higher than normal. So is 220...
My supercharged A&A 2001 ZO6 with stock cooling runs typically 215F at cruising speeds. I'll see 235 if I get on it a bit on the highway, but it creeps back down to 215F. I've seen as high as 242F immediately after a 1/2 mile pull.
My stock motor/cooling 2001 ZO6 track car runs about 205'ish at cruising speeds. It'll hit 290-300F on track though.
