Default Radiator Lowering Kit

How many ATI and Cerra Racing Turbos out there would be interested in having a Radiator Lowering Kit. This would get rid of the restrictive intake and allow cold air straight into the compressor.

I know a lot of you have seen Andy’s at A&A and it is a good idea. If enough of us are interested maybe we could get one of the Vendors to make the kit. If not I am toying with the Idea of doing it myself.

The kit would include the following and would go for around $500.

Lower Radiator Brackets
Upper Radiator Bracket
Upper Radiator Hose
Lower Radiator Hose
Nutsert tool
Nutserts
Air Bridge
Air Bridge Silocon Hose
Air Bridge Hose Clamps
Misc. Hardware

Let me know what you think.

Does Andy lower his also or just lay it down for stock fan clearance with the ATI kit?

Andy basically lays it down some so the intake airbridge can go straight over the top of the radiator. With this you can move the f shroud off you radiator and get some air to it, also I have a be-cool radiator that is a lot thicker so I cant even get to the less than adequate air cleaner that is mounted in the shroud and with this method you have a conical filter you can easily get to and clean. I am also told that somewhat higher numbers can be obtained with the air from the front of the car being cooler and this system simply flows better.

What I did was cut the radiator brackets off of the nerf rails under the car and moved them forward about 5.5 inches and then rewelded them to the rails. This moved the lower part of the radiator forward and allowed the top part of the radiator to move aft and lay down a bit. The top of the radiator almost ends up being flush with the cars frame. The only thing it cost me was to get a new radiator hose on the right side of the car. I went to Autozone and looked through there hoses and found one that would fit perfectly and just cut a little off of the length. Theres hardly any costs of parts involved, its more of a labor thing. The A/C lines will reach but require a little careful bending to lengthen them. Then I cut the front radiator shroud to fit and reattached it and moved the lower airdam forward under the car as well so it will still be functional. If you do it yourself and can weld, the part will only cost you 10.00 for the new right radiator hose. You can probably even leave the stock lower radiator mounts where they are and just fabricate some new brackets about 5.5 inches forward of the originals for practically nothing and just bolt them to the nerf rails and not even have to weld anything at all. Its not that big of a deal. Its just the "doing it" that most people dont want to mess with.

What Av8ter said. When you bring the lower part of the rad fwd. it allows the top to drop, thus you can bring a cool air intake into the inlet to the blower and retain the stock fan setup too.

Av8ter, thanks for the info, do you have pics you could post or email me?

Now about the kit, if you leave the original lower brackets intact then you would need new fabricated brackets. And if you are not a welder (I’m not) then you need something to attach these brackets. I would use Nutserts. Also this kit should include a template so there is no guest work in where the brackets would go.

The top bracket would either need to be fabricated or a new one altogether. Again screws or something to hold sides together if you ar fabricating the old one.

You would need radiator hoses as you stated. Andy at A&A said he modifies both radiator hoses. It sounds like you got away with only changing one. Do you have a part number on the radiator hose you used.

Also lets not forget about the Air Bridge, Air Bridge Silocon Hose, and the Air filter and clamps.

I think this could be a kit that most people could install without any welding. This is one of the reasons for this kit. Some people don’t have guys like you or Andy close by them and would need to do this on their own.

BTW: Did the airflow into the radiator get affected by moving it forward 5.5 inches?

Again thanks for the info and please send pics it sound like a nice setup.

Well I have decided to go ahead and make the radiator relocation kit for the turbo and supercharged guys that want better and cooler airflow.

The first kit will include the following; (Keep in mind that the goal for this kit was that no cutting or welding be required for installation). Also the first kit will be for a single turbo like Cerra’s. The ATI will come shortly thereafter with only a few mods.

Lower Radiator Brackets with radiator drain hole on passenger side
Upper Radiator Bracket that will probably be aluminum.
Lower Radiator Hose
Rivet nuts for mounting
Air deflector to replace the plastic one and create more area for air to move.
Air Bridge. ( At this time it will be aluminum.
Air Bridge Silocon Hose
Air Bridge Hose Clamps
Misc. Hardware
The jigs are being made next week. Because next week is a short week the jigs may be delayed, but I have hope that it will still be completed. Once the jigs are done we will test for fitment on multiple cars and if all is well it will be ready for production.

Additionally I have done some preliminary temperature testing in four locations on the radiator in stock form. Once the first production kit is available I will retest with the radiator repositioned, in the same locations that I tested in stock form. As soon as I have this data I will post it on the Forum.

If you are interested in the test equipment that I am using for this data, it is a SPER Scientific 4 Channel Thermometer with K-Type surface mount probes.

If anyone is interested in this kit or the ATI kit please send me an email.

I'm interested as well. What is the latest? Also, I want to install a FMIC and replace the existing dual side mounts and the related ducting. I think this mod would help facilitate ease of install. Does anyone have a FMIC kit besides MMS (I think theirs might be a little too pricey)?

I'm sure that A&A has something-it'd be worth a call.
BTW, I'm still waiting on a reply post from MMS on another thread-it seems as though their kit is still in R&D phase.

It is at the fabricator again because I was not happy with the design and quality. It should be done soon and ready for production. My hope is next week.

We will have a couple kits. The first kit will be just the brackets and hoses for those guys that just want that. The second kit will include what the first kit has and also include intercooler tubing and air intake for the Cerra Turbo. The third kit will include a FMIC and tubing for the Cerra Turbo.

Please be patient we have had 2 versions of the brackets and I was no happy with how them. I will not send this out until it is ready and has the quality that I think it should.

Thank you for all of you patients,

MXRACER,

Please keep us posted. I am definitely interested in the DIY kit for the ATI SC's. Will any special tools that don't come with the kit be required to do the conversion / installation?
