What's up guys just seeing what you all recommend for a High HP rear street tire in a 285-305/19 range. I currently run an 18/19 combo on the street and run a 305/35/19 Nitto NT05R Drag radial on the rear. The tire hooked pretty well new but its pretty worn now and not very good. The handling is also not great being a drag radial. This time around for the street combo I may sacrifice a bit of straight line for a little more for the corners and overall road manners but I still want it to be a good compound. Not very many choices for a 19x10 rim from what I've found but there are a couple I'm interested in so far.
Toyo R888R 285/35/19 Common used tire and people seem to like them well overall
Nitto NT01 285/35/19 Haven't read a ton about these on the street but seem to be good at the track.
Any others or feedback on these 3?
I would prefer to leave the 35 series sidewall as the car speedo has been adjusted to the wheel size and the extra sidewall should help traction. The front tires have a ton of life on them as well and they are 275/40/18. My C5Z is a D1SC 408 making just under 800 at the tire on a conservative 91 and meth tune so I'm not expecting this tire to hook 1st or maybe not 2nd but it does have some longer legs since it is running a 27in rear tire and different transmission with C6Z gearing. If I ever go back to the track I will certainly swap out the rears for a DR with more sidewall etc.
I honestly wouldn't put too much hope in ANY 305 street tire at 800 hp. I haven't heard anything about the Falkens, but I'm one who has run the R888 and liked them. 345 seemed to hook a little better than the 305 though. I'd be personally be inclined to run the R888Rs on the street and just understand it's not going to hook in the lower gears with anything short of a DR.
I've tried my buddys a 315/30/20 R888R on a TT setup, at around 850whp. I was able to put all of it down, compared to my 18" Mickey ETr, my mickey was a tad better. maybe 7% better, the R888r is a good balance with traction and handling imo.
I'm wanting to try the toyo 335s but I'm sticking with 18 to have a bit more sidewall
for hooking, a drag pack with a 16 rear and lots of sidewall flex will hopefully keep the parts off the track blowing stuff up so often
I ran the cup 345s and they stuck like grim death but any of these really sticky tires will heat cycle if you use them like a drag radial and get hard before their time
I "ruined" the cups before I even wore them out in under 3k miles by doing burnouts at the track
I'd like to see how streetable the MT drag radials are. I have a pair of hoosier `17 315 (like cheater slicks, only two shallow grooves) and they actually handle pretty well and hook great
thats the best "compromise" tire that I have but they will get you busted with no tread, dot or not (ask me how I know)
some folks groove a race tire for the street but they wear out so fast its and expensive habit.
Thanks for the feedback guys. My NT05's definitely got much harder as they wore out. Any idea roughly how long the R888R would last on the street? 6-8k miles? The new Falken is 200 treadwear which is nice and should go about 10k if I had to guess. It has more tread depth and a pretty aggressive compound but maybe not quite as aggressive as the R888R.
