Default C5 Corvette Whipple

Has anyone ran a 2.9 Whipple on a C5? I know they sell a Cathedral port kit with a Y-Series belt drive, however I haven't seen anyone else run one or seen it on the forum.

I haven't yet, I know a couple guys have asked before for a c5 specific kit, but I haven't seen one and from what I have seen they don't really seem interested in making one. I saw a couple hot rod kits and I believe I can make it work using a ZL1 heat exchanger pump and a boost district heat exchanger.

Absolutely, I saw a guy a picture of a guy that managed to fit a 3.3 Whipple in his C5 and it seemed to fit alright, minus the height. It didnt look like he did any cutting of the area below the wipers like what is required for an LSA blower. The main issue I was having with the idea of going LSA was the lack of smaller pulleys in the offset required for a c5. I also don't believe it would be completely unreasonable to source a hood to fit it.

I belive the 3.3l was an older Lysholm style supercharger that was shorter in length and sat forward on the engine. Where as the 2.9l is long and will require the cowl to be trimmed to fit

Hmm, thats interesting I didn't realize the generational difference. I was looking at the c6 kit and the cowling looks very similar in placement to the c5. I imagine that the trimming would not be as drastic as is needed for an LSA kit.

I googled the C6 kit and went out and eyeballed my stuff. It does look like the bulk of the supercharger will fall in front of the cowl.

Two things to note

- the intercooler hookups are at the back and will be in the wiper cowl

- the C5 is shorter then the C6, meaning the supercharger is going to stick further out of the hood

Oh, right on. I appreciate it. I was wondering where those hookups were. I don't really mind having to cut the hood a little bit. Are they in that area in the back behind the supercharger on the upper or behind and below the supercharger?

why not try the Lt5 blower, or hell the whole crate motor isn't that much more than these kits
the whipple flow a ton but you are going to need a big ol hole or a sky scraper hood scoop
the lt5 blower will be cheap and has dome decent intercooling

seems like it might be easier to me.

that old 3.3 build took a lot of custom work & figuring out onesie-twosie parts swaps to get everything together.
i went through this very debate 10yrs ago & was holding my breath while whipple was telling me they were working on an actual C5 kit - but by the time i turned blue, they told me they abandoned the C5 project since the cars were getting old & most people just slapped a centrifugal on them.

that's what led me to get the TVS2300. and as a roots blower, it also runs cooler than the twin screw. 10yrs & i still love it. upper 600s to the ground (with matching torque) is more than i'll ever need in a mostly-street & occasional road course car.
