Default C5R Block?

If you wanted to go boost-crazy and make sure you had something as strong as possible so it would live and last with all the power, could you use the C5R block in a normal street C5? I mean will all the other pieces from the LS1 fit in it?

Will all the accessories bolt up?

Is the C5R a dry sump block?

Do you HAVE to use a C5R crank?

Default Re: C5R Block? (luke_1201)

Welcome to the forum!

The C5R block has the same production external dimensions and accessory mounting bosses, but the biggest difference between this block and the GenIII (LS1/LS6) production blocks is a siamesed water jacket, which allows us engine builders to build engines with larger bore sizes. Yes, everything bolts up in stock locations. The delivered, pre hone, bore size is already larger than the LS1/LS6 production ready to assemble block. Considering the limitations of the LS1/LS6 block in boring (NOT including a resleeve) the C5R block has slug holes already too large for LS1/LS6 pistons. So, no the pistons would not fit in a C5R block. The C5R is a wet sump block as it comes from GM. The C5R block is also considered a GENIII block and can use the same aftermarket cranks available for the LS1/LS6 blocks...
