Default BIG PROBLEMS WITH MY ATI OVERNIGHT!!!

I'VE HAD MY ATI, H/C, LT HEADERS, RACETRONIX, AND ED WRIGHT PCM A LITTLE OVER A MONTH NOW. I DRIVE MY CAR USUALLY ON THE WEEKENDS IN SUNNY WEATHER ONLY AND HAVE MANAGED TO PUT LESS THAN 200 MILES ON IT. TOOK IT OUT ON THE 15TH AND RAN IT LIGHTLY WITH NO PROBLEMS. TODAY I GO TO TAKE IT OUT AND KABOOM, NOTHING WORKS RIGHT AT ALL. WHEN I START IT, THE IDLE RACES HIGH THEN GOES TO ABOUT 500RPM QUIVERS AND DIES. NOW I HAVE CHECK ENGINE AND GAUGES LIGHTS ON THE DASH, BLACK SMOKE THAT SMELLS LIKE GAS AND MATCH SMOKE DRIPPING OUT OF MY BORLAS. THE CAM IS 218/224/NOT SURE OF THE LAST #. MY CAR IS BRAND NEW WITH ONLY 1600 MILES ON IT. ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE ANY THOUGHTS? I GOT IT DONE AT MORE PERFORMANCE HERE IN CHARLOTTE--EMAILED THEM AS IT WAS 1830 WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I HOPE THEY STAND BEHIND THEIR WORK! RIGHT NOW I FEEL LIKE :U WHEN JUST A WEEK AGO I HAD SUPERCAR

Check the MAF. If the surge valve sticks, It'll blow the MAF into two pieces.

WHAT EXACTLY AM I LOOKING FOR IN THE MAF, I'M USING THE STOCK ONE AND AM NOT AWARE IT IS A TWO PIECE STRUCTURE. HOW CAN I CORRECT IT? IS THERE A FIX FOR THE SURGE VALVE? I MEAN THE CAR WAS PERFECT PRIOR TO STARTING HER UP TODAY! I DON'T HAVE ANY EQUIPMENT TO PULL CODES.

OK. DID SOME READING ON THE FORUM AND FOUND OUT HOW TO ACCESS THE CODES. THE ONLY ONES OF NOTE WHEN REFERENCED WITH THE CODE SHEET ARE P0175C--WHICH IS FUEL SYSTEM RICH. COULD THIS BE THE CULPRIT? MY A/F RATIO GAUGE IS IN THE HIGH STOICH RANGE WHEN THROTTLE IS IN USE BUT FLUTTERS LIKE IT'S GOING TO THE BEAT OF THE MUSIC WHEN NOT GOING FAST OR CONSTANT ON THROTTLE. IT WOULD EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM WITH THE BLACK TAILPIPES. THE OTHER CODES WERE GENERIC ONES SUCH AS U1000H. AND HOW CAN I FIX IT OR CAN I. I HAVE THE RACETRONIX SYSTEM AND USE 93 OCTANE EXXON GAS ONLY.

It sounds like something has gone wrong with the air flow metering. It's hard to diagnose without some type of scanner.

You might just try disconnecting the y pipe from the MAF and start the car. If that runs smooth it will tell you that the blow off valve is stuck closed. IF that is the case, make sure the vacuum line attached to it is working properly and that nothing is obstructing its operation.

Good luck!

It is probably nothing serious.

I'M NEW TO DOING MECHANIC WORK. IF THE SURGE VALVE IS CLOSED AND STUCK, HOW DO I UNSTICK IT (IS THIS THE SAME THING AS THE BLOW OFF VALVE?) AND WHERE SOULD I LOOOK TO SEE IF THE VACUUM IS HOOKED UP AND NOTHING OBSTRUCTING IT? I ASSUME YOU ARE SAYING TO LET THE CAR BREATH AT THE THROTTLE BODY WHEN YOU SAY TO DISCONNECT THE Y PIPE AT THE MAF

ANDY YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD! RATHER THAN TRY TO START LOOSENING ALL OF THE CLIPS, I JUST WENT AND STUDIED THE SYSTEM LOOKING FOR "INTO TWO PIECES" AND LOW AND BEHOLD THE CONNECTOR FROM THE Y PIPE AND BOTTOM OF MAF HAD HINGED LEAVING ABOUT A 0.5CM GAP. I THEN LOOSENED THE CLAMPS, REFIT EVERYTHING SNUG, RESET THE CODES AND BINGO SHE'S SUPERCAR AGAIN. THIS PIECE HAD TO BE RETROFITTED ON MY CAR. LOOKS LIKE ATI COULD HAVE FABRICATED A RUBBER CONNECTOR OR SOMETHING SIMILAR TO THE STOCK SETUP IN THIS AREA. MAYBE YOU COULD MODIFY AND BUILD THIS FOR THEM TOO! THEY SHOULD SEND YOU A FAT CHRISTMAS BONUS AS WELL.

THANKS AGAIN TO ALL WHO RESPONDED  JED

Mine kept coming apart between the maf and the air bridge. I eventually got a silicone connector and that solved the problem for good.

Glad you got it fixed.

Something else that needs to be redone on the ATI kit. Typical ATI

:iagree: Mine did this once also. Reconnected the coupler to the air bridge and snuged it up good and tight. It hasn't happened since. The bad thing was it happened at a red light. I had to pop the hood and fix it with a small tweaking screwdriver I happened to have. I was glad it was something simple. :seeya

Check to make certain that all your intake connection are fastened properly. It is not uncommon that under acceleration and boost they will come apart. This should be the first item you check. I'll bet that is your problem.
