Had this msd 2 step on the car for quite sometime but always had it wired to the top clutch switch. I don’t like that when launching/slipping the clutch the 2 step stays engaged until the clutch reaches back to the top. Basically it’s still cutting spark 40 feet out or so.
Finally got motivated to lay under the dash and switch to the lower clutch switch. One wire piece of cake right!? Well not so. I can’t get either yellow or purple wire to activate the 2 step.
Volt meter on those wires going to the clutch switch, I’m not getting anything. It’s obviously working because with out it plugged in car won’t start. What gives? Should be simple yet here I am asking if anyone else had this problem?

subbed for data, as I'm about to wire one in, off the top switch sounds good based on what you're describe, are you saying you can plant the tire way before that?
what's the downside with your scenario?
I went thru the same thing and wanted to use the bottom switch, but the lack of +/- signal on that switch presents a challenge. It's only powered while cranking the starter, and it's never grounded. The top switch (cruise disable) was more convenient because it provides a 12v signal. The simple solution was to cutoff the bottom clutch switch and run wires the switch as you please. Then tie the original wires together, to bypass the clutch/starter safety switch. Just be careful about starting in gear, because she'll drive off... If you really want to keep the safety feature, you could probably tie in a relay.
