I have and 04 z51 coupe with the A&A upgraded fuel system (intank plus external). Car recently starting losing fuel pressure every now and then and not start. I didn't notice until a full NO start and the fuel pressure gauge is now consistently on zero
loving the idea of dropping the rear cradle to get to the tanks, the cross over is leaking too so now is the time
love to defer this as I'm back to driving a total hoopty and just get the pumps running ( I can live with the cross over leak, only happens when full)
I'm breaking out the factory manual but I'd like to see from those who have been there done that troubleshooting and repair tips.
I'm hoping I'm going to find bad grounds or power wires rather than dropenzeetanks.
I know the gm folks spend mega $ and met some great safety goals but the maint stinks
If it turns out I'm pulling the tail (and my hair) I'm thinking of a better system that I can get to and fix if there is a problem
can you?
retrofix older tanks and fuel system so you can get to the pumps?
replace the tanks with a race style fuel system and still be able to fill with the stock stuff (nice to have)
other options?
I have a feeling my fancy intank fuel pump shat the bed and no fuel pressure, no bueno.
I need a young priest, and an old one (and a service manual) Car sat for a few days, turn the key, FP comes up and she starts right up.
Maybe there is hope and it's wiring, or ground issue. My drivers side front headlight is out too despite new bulb, hmmmm.....
I did disconnect the battery but had tried that before. FP came up a bit slowly from 20 psi to 60 psi so maybe pump is on it's way out and needed a rest.
has to be some weird ground problem or belzebub. Durn car build fuel pressure and starts right up.
I bet if I take my wife somewhere I can make it fail again. Time to fix this! I hate intermittent problems (especially wiring)
but I have a feeling the pump might be ok, it's pretty new and shouldn't be giving fits at this early stage
A&A fuel system. I had a "backup plan" thought Since the car has been converted over to a front mount fuel pressure regulator, and the primary pump runs with the secondary external pump triggered by a hobbs switch
if you put in a hobbs bypass to run power to the secondary pump (primary failed) it should get you home (and keep belzebub and murphy back in h@ll)
Feel for you brother. Electrical issues are a huge fear of mine if that’s what you’re even chasing. Especially since some of the modules aren’t even made anymore. Mine looks like this rn I’d almost rather be your shoes😂

Definitely. I have a buddy working on a secondary injector set up for his M8 comp. I think you mentioned it another thread? Anxious to see how both of you make out with it.

Couple questions?
Is the car an automatic? If not you can drop the tanks without removing cradle! I have done it twice.
Do you have a hotwire kit on the stock pump? If not you need to add one. The fuse blocks on these cars had some issues with heat and melting. Brett has experience with this as well.
There is a chassis ground back by the drivers side rear wheel just back from the fuel pump connector. You will have to take wheel liner out to inspect. I would make sure that connection is clean and solid.

We checked wiring with the wheel liners out. This is an A&A kit with a replacement intank and hobbs switch for large external secondary pump. Since we fiddled with the car, we can't make it fail. I do think the check valve might be sticking open and bleeding back prime start up
car used to go to 60 psi and stay, now it goes to 60, drops to 20, and recovers when car starts. That tells me something might be leaking back on startup.
