Default Practicality

OK this post is not meant to be a debate of whether superchargers or turbos are better. Basically what would be more practical and less headache for street-use on a C5, turbo or supercharger?

What I mean by practical and less headache is say I wanted HP increase through FI, but without having to modify anything else in the engine due to stock parts that wouldn't come with a kit not being able to handle the power, what would be the most economical FI kit that you do an install of the parts that the kit came with and boom you're done no other parts need to be added/modified? If I have confused anyone please tell me what part to specify on because I think I confused myself a little bit.

Knyght,

Seeing that you live in FL I'd recommend going with something along the lines of an intercooled ATI kit. I tuned an 02 Z06 with Magnuson this past week and it is "extremely" sensitive to temperature. With 50-55 degree ambient air temps the intake temps were reaching 175 on the highway and 190 on the dyno. This is not the best solution for a FL car. In the summer intake temps will easily hit 220 down here.

Personally I don't have anything against turbos... they make great power across the board but like everything it comes at a price. A TT @ 5 lbs should easily get you to the 450+ RWHP range. Keep in mind the stock bottom end (particularly the pistons/rings) was never design to handle the cylinder pressures you would see on a TT setup.

There's been some healthy debate about how much HP you can add to the stock system before you seriously jeopardize other parts. In the thread that's now going on about the soon-to-be-released twin turbo by TurboTechnologies, it's suggested that the limit is around 450 rear wheel HP. So, this # might be a starting point. The post above sounds like experience speaking, but also ask yourself, if you added an ATI, could you resist the temptation of cranking up the boost, which would be very easy to do? :reddevil I have the exact same concerns as you, but that would be very difficult not to want to do. :banghead:
