Default Turbo Blankets

I find myself looking into heat shielding and reflector tapes and thinking about blankets for my turbos. It is something I'd like to purchase and plan for early on before I get to the point of grinding the frame / crossmember / mounts etc in case I want more space to accommodate them.

Options abound.

I could grab some Ebay blankets for el cheapo. Maybe even double them up. And not be surprised when they cook themselves to the turbine housing but only be out about $30 each.

I could go for Inconel custom fit covers which would sit very tight to the case, provide a permanent barrier, and not expand the overall footprint... but that's like a $1200 investment unless someone can educate me how to cut my own and seal it.

Or the smattering of various name brand material blankets in the 200 to 600 range each, most of which are packed like pillows.

What are the experiences out there?

Additional question - how long do they last? DEI has a few models in the 200 to 600 range and offer warranty for two years. How quickly do these break down in direct contact with high heat?

Inconel custom fit

DEI T4 Gen 3 (which are MUCH less expensive through other vendors now that I look)

And Ebay, which mostly don't fit from what I'm reading and if they do they burn quickly.

I was originally going to go with PTP blankets, but after seeing how tight everything was I took them off and had turbo exhaust housings coated by Swain Tech.

my Turbo Performance Products blankets have held up nicely for almost three years now, and my EGTs see at least 800-900° every drive because i live at the top of a 3mi, 6% grade.

I checked with HPT to be sure and adding coating will not void the 4 year warranty, so I'll be popping them off to go in the mail this weekend. Good idea you gave me.

Fair point about spacing. I'll have to wait and see / consider. Though I think I will still prefer to keep the heat under the car in the exhaust as much as possible vs heating up the engine bay and harnesses. I did pick up some DEI reflect-a-gold panels and tape on sale so I'll make a go with that as well.
