What do you guys use to vent the bottle in case of too much pressure. I see alot of setups where there is no blow down tube hooked up anywhere. Do you just rely on the pressure release valve to vent it. Does it vent into the car.

Re: Nitrous guys, safety question (sprayedc5)
When a blown down tube is not used we rely on the safety blow off cap to relieve the pressure of the nitrous bottle so that the nitrous bottle does not blow up from so much pressure instead it blows off the safety cap and releases pressure . I have never experienced something like this nor do i want to there is a lot of pressure in a nitrous bottle and if it's going to relief pressure it gonna blow like you wouldn't believe just imagine when some one purges their line just for a second and all the pressure comes out now imagine a pressurized bottle waiting to blow off in the car .
All nitrous kits come with a bottle that has a blow off valve. Some even say the pressure it takes to blow the valve.
NHRA requires bottles that are in the same compartment as the driver to be vented outside the car. That's why you buy a valve that has threads on the end that can be attached to a tube or a steel braided line and routed outside the car. However, if you have a trunk, and the bottle is in the trunk, you do not have to vent it outside the trunk compartment.
Therefore, if you have a hatchback C5, you must vent it to be track legal. If you have a Z or FRC w/ a partition, you could make the argument to the tech guy that it is a trunk and therefore the bottle does not have to be vented to the outside of the trunk.
To be safe, you might as well vent it to the outside regardless of the type of C5 you have.
I think he means purge without losing the charge. Just hit your purge to reduce the pressure. If you don't have a purge, loosen the fitting on the bottle, bleeding off until you get it were you want it. You could cool the bottle also.
Pretty sure most tracks require the blow down tube that exits the car.
:iagree:
I have friends with Mustangs (i dont say that too loud) but they are required to have a blow off even though the bottle is in the trunk separated by the rear seat. (SN-95 style)
Wait a minute, are you talking about hatchback mustangs and corvettes?
If so, then yes, you must vent the bottle out of the car because the bottle is in the PASSENGER COMPARTMENT.
If you are talking about a notchback mustang or an FRC/Z with a partition, then the bottle is in the trunk with a firewall separating the driver's compartment from the trunk. Why would you need to vent the bottle out of the trunk?
I guess the key is whether the tech guy thinks the partition is enough of a firewall to make the rear a trunk.
