O.K. I need one of you nitrous guru's to answer a couple of questions for me. I have a 99 FRC, with shorty headers, B&B exhaust, cold air intake, cats removed and a TNT 100 shot. Now what I need to know is what do I have to do to increase my shot to either a 150 or 200 shot? I already plan on a clutch upgrade, the stock clutch is letting go now, line lock and some drag radials. I only have a 1/8 mile track close and a best time of 8.35 with no juice and crappy tires. Can someone please tell me what I might need to add and any thoughts of what kind of times I might turn at the 1/4 mile when I go this year, Thanks in advance. Bob
Bob - by no means am I an expert. My TNT nitrous kit is in the mail and I plan on running a 100 shot. But, from the research I did if you want to increase the shot over 100 and still be 'safe' make sure you upgrade the fuel injectors. Since you are increase the amount of nitrous, you need to increase the amount of fuel as well. Also a more powerful fuel pump may be needed, but I 'think' that is only necessary at 150 and above.....
I got my kit last May and I don't use it a lot but I'm telling you your going to love it!!!!! Did you get the options like heater and purge kit? I love pulling up to the stop light and purging the system when about ready to launch, scares the crap out of the guy next to you, not that I would ever street race :) Have you upgraded your clutch yet?
1. you should retard some timing.
2. Also most fogger systems will only flow up to a 150. I wouldnt go over 150.
3. anything over 150 you should increase your fuel pump.
Clutch is a given.
If low times are what you are craving do a head + cam then add the 150. My car puts down 525 RWHP. Thats good enough for 10's with the right tires on a 1/4 mile track.
Another thing you can do is get rid of the drag radials and go with an ET Street. Thats good for 1.5-1.6 60' times.
I do not know the capacities of the stock C5 fuel pump, but I trust what ICULUKN says. I think my Z06 pump is good enough for 150+hp shot, although I haven't tried it yet.
What you definitely want to do is contact TNT and get the specs on the fuel and nitrous pill sizes for the 150hp shot.
You should _NOT_ need bigger injectors unless you are already running a heads/cam package and need them to fuel the motor in naturally aspirated form. The extra fuel needed when adding more nitrous is added by running larger fuel jet(s). You should be able to tune the nitrous completely independent of the N/A tune. If you bump up the pills properly on both the nitrous AND fuel side, you should be safe.
However, this may indeed tax the fuel pump to the point it needs to be upgraded.
WA 2- he will only need bigger injectors if
He is running a dry shot and goes big or
He does not have the 'good' 28 lbers that come stock in the 01's and newer LS1/6's and does the head and cam.
My only point is that as long as he is running a wet shot, no injector upgrade is necessary unless you go digging in the internals.
fella's...this is easy and simple. SIMPLY CHANGE THE JETS IN THE NOZZLE. There should be TWO jets in each nozzle,....one for fuel, one for n20. The larger number WILL ALWAYS BE FOR THE NITROUS, the smaller jet is for fuel. Simply change those and your good to go. SIMPLE POWER. ANd cheap, only a few bucks for each jets. You guys should be running 150 shots anyway, 100 hp is only a tease but, it is noticable.
2nd, you have a WET shot, you DO NOT NEED TO CHANGE THE FUEL PUMP FOR A WET NITROUS SHOT(unless ofcourse you have bookoo power). DRY SHOTS ARE NOT SAFE ABOVE 100hp. stock fuel pumps are not recommended for dry shots above 100hp. Wet shot, 150hp, you'll be fine with stock pump. And as 2 fast brought up before, your injectors should be fine. Just so you fella's know, the way TNT rates there kits is modest, in other words, there 100hp shots are actually 125hp give or take a few horsepower, and a 150 will be like 175hp(all numbers are to the wheels). Not bad. NX(nitrous xpress) (which is what we are running) lays down pretty accurate numbers. On our 150 NX WET shot, we gained 159 rear wheel hp from the shot.
O.K., I just want to clarify what rythem is saying. I have the jets to bump up to 150 and I've been told that TNT numbers are conservative. I put the 100 jets in first thing when the kit arrived but now I need more. My real question here is that I have a 99 FRC so I assume that I don't have these ( GOOD ) injectors that you are talking about, so do I need to do anything but change my jets or do I need injectors as well. I know I seem cautious about this but last summer I blew the factory motor by screwing up a shift and the wife will just shoot me if I torch the new motor as well. Thanks, Bob
