I had just about given up on the Magnason S/C on my car. The car had this noise that sounded like knocking while under hard acceleration and even though the tuner's scanner said the car wasn't knocking, I swore it was.
Well it is amazing what an add of 4 gals of 100 Octane fuel can do. No mor knock. Anyone else in California having problems with 91 octane fuel ??
Try some 100 octane stuff, it helps. :hurray: :hurray:
Who tuned your car? If the tune was done using the 91 octane gas you use, you should not have this problem It's unfortunate that you may have to do a more conservative tune for California, but it seems to be the reality. Glad to hear the problem is solved.
Not sure. Given the trouble with the hood, tuning, frying a piston and that cost I wish I had looked into a head/cam pkg. but I never gave it a thought at the time. :banghead: The idea of supercharging just struck a cord and I never looked at any other ideas.
The S/C is a kick, I have to admit, I'm not disappointed, just lighter in the wallet
My car ran lean from the moment I installed the Superchips program that came with the S/C, and MMS got rid of most of it, but it still was there under certain accelerations. Only the higher octane has eliminated it completely.
The lean condition is what fried a piston and cost a bundle. :mad :mad
ive got the same problems, and i just got my car back from a dyno tune done at ed wrights shop! if thats not a spark knock ill eat my hat , im out of options though, its gonna go until it blows!
The new tuner I'm using in the Bay area hooked up his scanner and computer and we went for a ride. The scanner said the car was not knocking, but the noise was a knock. We looked at the cats, the tensioner and anything else we could think of that might make that noise.  . But could not find anything so I suggested higher octane fuel. There's a place that sells 100 octane, so in it went and away went the knockin :hurray: :hurray:
if your using higher octane fuel and the noise goes away then it has to be a spark knock. ive used an additive and it made no change in mine so ive been told its not a spark knock, but i have a nosie that sound just like one !
I used an additive ever since I got the S/C and it did not help, it is only after used 4 gals of 100 to the remainder of the tank in 91 that it went away.
so how often do you fill up with 100? or did you just use it once? it seems to me that it would need it all the time, if it solved the knock. im still looking for 100 or better that i can pump unleaded, we have it leaded but not un.
Too bad you are not able to find any other solution for that knock problem. :( buying that fuel is not going to be cheap or easy for each fill up. I have a portable 30 gallon fuel tank that I take to that same station that you go to so I can store 100 octane and put it in the car in blend or straight up when I need it. Here is a link to the tank. http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...=533&langId=-1
Has anyone tried water/alky or propane injection on a magnuson. It might not be ideal with a twin screw, but it is something that can be used as a substitute for high octane gas and an intercooler on many other FI applications. See this link for more details on how it works. http://www.carrollsupercharging.com/GI.html
One other thing. You guys should really try a decarb procedure to eliminate some your knock. It's a very simple procedure and can be done without breaking a sweat. The PVC design on your LS1 has left you with a nice oil supply in your intake. Search the tech section for details on how the decarb can be done.
I am running on the first tank, still. At this point I will probably add the 100 octane with every fillup. It adds $8 to a fill each fillup, it is no different then the cost of an additive. :skep:
I do not know whether the stuff I.m pumping is unleaded or not. At this point it solved my problem
i found 1oo race gas today but you can only buy it on race/practice days. also it can only be pumped into a container, so ill be trying this tomorrow. how about rotor noise? i checked with a tech 2 today and no matter what this noise is its pulling timing so its not good. magnuson said it will take appoximately 1000-2000 miles before it goes away, anyone heard that before?
What rotor noise are you referring to??
After switching to the higher octane my engine stopped the knocking noise immediately. I am driving at Thunderhill ractrack this Friday I will let you know how it goes.
