I am planning on buying a magnuson. I and my firend (the installer) would like to know what we are getting into before I go out and buy the unit. Is there anyway I could get my hands on a set of instructions to see how difficult the installation is? My friend would like to look over the installation before he decides to take on the job. I would also like to know what else I would need to do (besides buy a high rise hood) to a 2000 FRC. How would I reprogram the comptuer?
I would highly recommend a well-known tuner to do the dyno run. Don't just reprogram the computer...get a wide band dyno tune from a reputable shop...this can make the difference between tens of thousands of trouble free, neck-snapping miles versus fryed pistons.
As for installation, I just got mine delivered and the intake manifold, fuel rails, and injectors as well as the blower come assembled. The other box is the sir bridge, hoses, clamps, etc. I am having cartek do the install next month along with their stage II head/cam with dual springs and the upcharge for installation of the lower is only $700 more.
I'll let you know how it goes but everything I read is that the installis quite simple. I can xerox the instructions and mail to you if you like. Let me know where to send it..best of luck!!!
The installation instructions are on Lingenfelters website http://www.lingenfelter.com/Magna%20...structions.pdf
the install is very easy and as far as the programming goes, I live in Memphis and there are no good tuners here so I sent my PCM to Ed Wright www.fastchip.com and have not been disappointed you on the other hand being from Jersey have a wealth of tuning expertise at your fingertips so find someone local for your tuning and enjoy
Just finished my install a few days ago. Not much of a gear head, but I didn't have any big problems. Bought mine from Nate and Mike at extreme and they were great to work with and the programming he did for me worked grear so far. It's running a little rich, but that's ok for now. Hey I don't have a fancy garage, just jackstands and a few tools. I will probably get someone with a lift to do the crank pinning later. Call if you would like a detail of the install. w-800 338-4168 ext 316 or cell 336 669-1973 Mike :D :D :blueangel: :D
IMO I wouldn't drive the car without pinning the crank, I know it looks difficult but it only takes a couple of hours to do and I did mine by myself, the trick is you don't have to remove the rack from the car just remove all of the bolts and shove it all the way out the left side until it's clear of the crank but still hanging in the car
BTW most motors have a keyway which will keep the damper from spinning on the crank snout but on this motor the damper just slides over the crank snout and is held in place with a bolt, I just removed a damper off of an engine I'm building and all I had to do is remove the bolt and then I gave it a good yank and it came right off, that tells me if I can pull it off by hand it wouldn't take much more force to make it spin on the end of the crank, good luck with the install (it is really easy :yesnod: ) and enjoy your supercharger :chevy
