Default Hello...

Hey guys, just wanted to take a minute and introduce myself. I've been lurking for quite some time and must say that I'm VERY impressed with your cars! Since I'm familiar with boost, the guys who have turbo setups interest me in particular. Since I've been lurking here, I've noticed that I'm slowly being converted into a C5 lover and have a pretty strong feeling that I may wind up in one before the end of the year. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute to the forum with my knowledge of the *** cars and boost, and you all can educate me in the ways of brute power, etc....

You guys have a GREAT forum and I look forward to hanging out here!

-Chad

:seeya I had a new 97 VR4 for about 2 years. Also, just sold the daily driver a 91 300ZXTT, since my wife just had a second child. We needed a back seat in my dd.

Thanks for the welcome, fellas! I'm amazed at the performance aspect of the Vette in regards to how few mods it takes to make these things REALLY move. On my forum, there are several cars running in the low 12s-high 11s, so it's extremely interesting to me to see so many of you guys in the 11s and 10s. The fact that the powertrain/drivetrain seem to be bulletproof is also quite attractive! How streetable are the cars with S/C or turbo setups? The torque these things make when boosted is absolutely obscene!

dont think for a minute that the drivetrain is bulletproof. The A4 is a complete slushbox, and the slave cylinder on the 6 speed needs some engineering. The LS1/6 block is a good start, but like any other car that you throw tons of money at you can make go super fast. Some of us on this forum have 20-40k in mods!! + the cost of a new C5. I know I have over 15k in just my motor including the n20 and thats not including another 8k for my stereo. The vette is definitly a good starting point, but the aftermarket will drain you since everything has the 'vette' premium that we have grown acustom to paying.

Mortgage the house now .... Good luck...

Sorry... should have clarified when I said "bulletproof" :D. Compared to the AWD system in my car, you guys have a pretty strong drivetrain. The first generation VR4s are known for their weak transfer cases. I could probably find a forums worth of pictures of broken x-fer cases. As far as the aftermarket is concerned, it doesn't really seem to be so bad (costwise) because there are so many sources. My car has a lack of aftermarket, so EVERYTHING is at a premium. The 3/S community has about 3 (maybe 4) good shops to choose from when it comes to modding our cars.

<---- That list of shops is nice to see and I can't say that I've really read badly about any of them. Aftermarket support is nice, especially coming from a platform that doesn't have much.

I think you mean Norris Motorsports (Morgan is in CA) :D. Only about a 4 hour drive from here, which is NICE. The shop that built my current car is in New Mexico!! The closest shop that specializes in 3/S cars is in North Carolina, so a 4 hour drive is just a stone's throw compared to what I'm used to.

For the $8k spent in their complete heads/cam package, what can I expect by way of power and e.t.'s? From what I gather, seems to be about 430ish to the wheels, good for mid to low 11s in the 120s? Coming from a platform with a not so efficient drivetrain, I'm amazed at how well the Vette makes use of it's power.

Also... is there a simple way to understanding cam profiles? Upgraded cams are not something that are used much in 3/S cars, so any help you can give in understanding them would be appreciated.

Thanks for all the info and the warm welcome, so far!
