Default Mag Owners Please help!!

Hey guys,

Brainstorm, this might be a good place to find some answers for my project. Afterall you guys are using the same blower (M112)

I put a lightning M112 on my LT1 93 Firebird and i have some problems.

To see pictures of the project go here.... http://community.webshots.com/album/73249682zNpxhw

Okay first problem,
We got the car cranked with this blower last sunday and with a open throttle body the thing was extrodinaroly loud. To the point where it woke niebhors and really probally damaged my hearing. I sent the blower off to the guys who rebuilt it and besides "too much oil packed in the back bearings" they said it was normal. Who knows.. we will see when i get a new blower on the car.

How loud are you guy's Eatons? Are they extremely loud at an idle like i'm describing?

2nd,
I need someone to help me out and tell me where they get a vaccum source for thier bypass valve. Is it below the blower or before? Also I believe (hasn't come in the mail yet) my bypass valve has 2 vaccum lines and a electrical connector. Sound familiar?

No. Something is wrong. At idle, you can barely hear it. Under normal driving, you don't hear it at all inside the car. Under boost, you hear a little inside the car, but not much. Outside the car, under boost, it's loud. Almost sounds like a police siren. What you are describing sounds very bad, like the bearings are shot or something. Get a new one.

The 112 for the C5 application has a little nipple on the supercharger on the drivers side. That runs to an eletrical sending unit, usually mounted near the battery/fuse box. That sending unit then runs to the boost guage. The boost guage is electrical, not mechanical.

Hope this helps.

Definatly NOT normal, I can bearly hear mine at idle and only sounds like a jet taking off at wide open throttle.

Well, my boost gauge is mechanical.

Whether or not it is mech or electrical, boost is boost, right? You need a vacuum/boost source downstream of the blower, so anywhere on the manifold should work if you need to invent a place for it.

I got the eaton running pretty good, all it needs is a bit more tuning and it should be a freaking monster.

I had a problem with the belt slipping under snappy revs and at any RPM with the A/C on and I corrected it by repositioning that idler to use up more of the belt (the belt was a touch too long)

The car seems to be snappy and responsive and its only on its 2nd tune

My bypass valve still hasn't come yet, It should be here monday. I've got the valve tapped down right now. It seems to have a harder time idling with the valve closed and also seems to produce a bit more noise.

I've got the stock elbow on the throttle body with a peice of shirt clamped over the opening to serve as a "bird and rock" filter. It doesn't work very well as far as flowing. When i put the motor under load it collapses the stock elbow

I took the car out and romped on it a bit tonight and it built 1psi of boost.. haha I guess between not having the bypass valve completely shut the cheeseball air filter it couldn't build any more boost. It was also running around 10:1 AFR... gotta fix that ;)

I bought 2 180 degree 3 inch mandrel bends and have already mocked up a cold air intake but I will not finilize on it until i have the upper intake redone to clear the hood.

I'm really happy with the blower, its a completely different unit. This one does say FORD SVT on the front  . I think i'll leave it so people who don't know will! :D This blower is also completley quiet at an idle. It doesn't make any noise at all. As soon as you get on it it makes a moany growl that is just competely badass.

I had a vaccuum leak with the hose that connects into the T/B, had it re-routed so it wouldn't come loose again. Also, I changed out the blade in my T/B, to one with a smaller hole. The mag. was sucking air back through the hole and keeping the rpms high on downshifts, as well as startup.

Not sure if this helps, but it fixed my problem, which also displayed as idle surge.
