Default Help needed with choice....

So let me pose a question. I think I am going to go with a supercharger here in the next week or so. Which one do you have and how hard was the install??

Drivability???

I am leaning towards the LPE package...anyone have this one??

If you dont have one what one would you go with??

Also Which hood are you running??

Photos of your car if it is done would also be awesome.

Pretty much any comments on the matter would be helpful!!

The LPE package is the Magnacharger. This is a very reliable kit. PROCHARGER for the C5 is also quite popular and has been out for about the same amount time. A bt more TQ and HP with the procharger but boteh of them ahve pros and cons against each other. Whicever you choose, understand that selecting the Tuner is more important than the KIT itself. Put as much, or more, research into the tuner as you do the KIT.

I have the Magnuson, sold by LPE (in my case, installed by 21st Century Muscle Cars since I'm right next to them here in Texas). I like it, but there are pros and cons of it versus some of the other offerings out there right now, which include primarily the ATI and Vortech, which are both centrifugal blowers whereas the Magnuson is a roots blower. If you do a search on these names, you'll find lots of opinions, and you just have to decide what's your important criteria.

Consider how you're going to get your tuned, also, especially if you're not near a tuner. You might call LPE to see what they would do if you bought the kit from them. If you go with a vendor other than LPE, the Magnuson comes with its own tuning, which has produced mixed results, but in some cases that mix has included very impressive #s.

Install of the charger itself didn't appear too bad, but as with all superchargers, you also have to pin the crank, which requires you to move the steering rack out of the way of the crank pulley. That appears to be the most difficult part of the install, assuming the tuning goes well.

As far as the hood goes, I have the ACI -- when I first saw it, I thought it was kind of tall from the inside of the car, but mine is painted black on the underside windshield-facing rim, so it's far less prominent when viewed from that perspective. I think it looks pretty mean at all angles other than directly from the side of the car, at which point it looks awful tall. Other hoods include the RK Sport which has gotten some bad press about fitment, and now Caravagio has one as done Motor City Molds, I think. Here's some pics of mine:

Sorry, no pics yet. I have a 99 convertible with the ATI Procharger twin intercooled kit on it. I went with this system after a lot of research because it gave me the most hp gain on an otherwise stock engine and the base kit can support up to 800 hp without any modification to the supercharger, athough a larger belt may become necessary. I intend to build it up to about that level.

Drivability so far has been very good, and it actually has raised the highway mpg by about 7 to 34mpg. Gas mileage when standing on the accelerator is a different story of course. I also like the ATI because I have been able to keep the hood and outside of the car totally stock, thus sneaking up on bratty kids in hopped up Civics.

I agree that you need a good tuner to install. I chose a forced induction specialist close to me and he made the process completely painless.

I hope this helps a little, and good luck in your search :flag
