Xtreme TTi Project update
Yesterday I got a call form Davidmax (smilovic) with a very sincere apology and he told me he had no problem putting my car back to how it was when delivered to Xtreme. I was very happy that David apologized and I immediately honored it and told him that it was very big of him to apologize after all the exposure.
David asked me if I had any different proposals other than putting my car back to how it was delivered and I said, "one". I proposed that I would like to see the project follow through but did not feel like I should have to pay for any R&D Xtreme would be doing for TTi. Well Xtreme offered to do it and is going to pick it up and they offered to fly me out there and put me up in a motel so that I could help out with the project and observe how the shop is doing business. I have to admit my jaw hit the floor and I was speechless for a minute.
This is what kind of company I thought Xtreme was when I sent my car out to Arizona. I am very happy. The deal is...if the modifications/parts that TTi sent them still don't work, then Xtreme will still return my car to its original condition at no additional charge to me. This is fantastic. I hope to offer my abilities as a hobbyist/mechanic (20 years) to help with some of the labor.
I also took the liberty to call TTi to get some explanations as to why the Turbo kit was not doing what they told Xtreme and me it would do. I spoke with Jim who was very informative. Jim told me that the manufactures are the ones who are claiming that the Turbos will easily support 600rwhp. It has all came from the same source. I explained to Jim that I felt it was not correct for somebody making Turbos to make that claim without having first verified it in the real world and that information should not transfer down the pipeline,,because when it has not been proven first it effects us all very negatively when it doesn't work.
As you all know (maybe) I feel very strongly about kits, parts, motors, etc.. being put out on the market for us consumers without being adequately tested. I will not put up with another product like the ATI when it first came out...it was HORRIBLE...if it was not for Andy, GWP, MMS, and ECS continually trying to work out the issues, that very good blower would still be on a POS kit and nobody would be wanting it...so KUDOS to those guys..but now I have to say KUDOS to Xtreme, not only agreeing to return my car but in giving it one last shot at seeing what it will take or not take to adjust the TTi kit so that it works for higher boost applications. There is still a chance that the modifications that TTi has recommended as a fix..will not work...I feel this is a risk for Xtreme but it is what is necessary to do the right thing. At least now if I leave without the kit...I know and want the rest of you to know that Xtreme gave it the best shot they could with the information and parts they were given.
If the modifications work then I hope all will recognize that after a pitful, Xtreme climbed back up to try and make it right for me and the everybody else that is potentially interested in the kit. There is nothing more that I could ask...at this time.
Lesson Learned.
Manufactures,
Should not make claims to anybody before the product has been R&D'd and power/performance claims are not just a theory but have been verified on the application. ie..just because the T28's make 30+ lbs of boost on a Nissan 300 zx does not mean they will make 15lbs on a C5.
Vendors,
Even though a reputable company makes claims to you, verify that it is somehow true. This will help avoid false or unknown claims on product performance..and keep everybody from becoming a "Snake Oil Salesman". Also will help avoid all the expenses involved with fixing something that is not correct in the first place.
If this kit did what it was supposed to do, like it was claimed it would...it would have been completed on schedule and a bunch of parts would not have to be swapped...its not that hard to figure out. Time is money.
However,
This post is a positive and I wanted to share with other forum members that Xtreme is holding good on their part to make at least all atempts to make the kit worked like I was told it would, and if it doesn't will give me a full refund...customer service is back to outstanding in my book.
Once again..
Thanks to all of you for your support during some painful moments during this project development.

Looking forward to some Crazy #'s :auto:

I think its great that all parties have come together to give this thing one last shot. I sincerely hope that you guys as a team get this kit setup to deliver what you are expecting.
I look forward to seeing a post in the near future that has power numbers that blow everyone away, with all that everone has gone through you guys deserve a pay off for the hard work and investment that has been made.
Your posts and Bill's sage advice to Davidmax(we all know this was the case), have resulted in 'Damage Control' @ its very best here...
Congrats to you for this now ideal(hopefully) situation. And Xtreme, for giving you absolute Carte Blanche treatment(although, this was really their only option ;) )

"If Extreme using Kev's car for R&D and new parts are needed...why doesn't Extreme just pay those cost?"
I am surprised this resolution did not surface earlier. I know if I was in Kevin's shoes I would also stick it out to see if the kit can be worked out. I'm not the type to get butthurt if I can't drive my vette for a few months...especially if there could be a tt on the horizion.
Kevin & Extreme, best of luck with this project. I feel good about the chances of this kit, even if it takes some trial, error and money to get it worked out.

Thanks to the rest of you guys for recognizing the vendors efforts...usually when there is a blow apart on the forum, it has rarely turned out with a happy ending. Lets keep our fingers crossed the new parts from TTi at least resolve most of the issue..we need at least to be able to hold 12lbs at 6200 rpms to make any real power up top. Right now the boost is fine on the bottom and delivering over 600rwtq. If the waste gates would stay shut I can see making 70-100 more rwhp at 6200 rpms. The torque is fantastic and anymore torque is icing as it comes in max at 1800 and reaches peak by 2800rpms. At around 3100 rpms the waste gates open due to exhaust gas pressure created by the small turbine housing outlets. The new turbine housings have bigger outlets and are supposed to relieve exhaust back pressure..which hopefully in turn will not cause the wastegates to be forced open by exhaust back pressure..at least this is TTi's take on the whole situation. We will definetly find out.

This kit has internal wastegates and a diaphram, according to Bill and TTi there is very little room with the kit as is. I don't know if there are external waste gates that would fit within the compartment space. If there were external wastegates that fit within the compartment space..I believe these problems would have been easily resolved. I am contacting an import Turbo race shop just out of curiosity to see if there is that option. But at the same time Xtreme is completing the Turbine Housing replacement as TTi has recommended they do.....I am just keeping my fingers crossed that it works.
