Default Which Electronic Boost Controller

would you prefer and why?

Also, are there ones that are faster learners than others? What else might I look for in such a device?

Zero experience with one. I think LPE uses the HKS EVC PRO....three levels of fun......unless you run race gas (and take a chance on det), just have LPE up the boost to a 93 octane safe 10 psi....along with the fuel component upgrades......should put you close to 600rwhp and save around $1200 for a controller that's useless without race gas.........zoom. The crank will take 600rwhp all day long.....the pistons (ringlands) and the rods/bolts might disagree though.

I use a HKS EBC V. It controls the boost perfect. It has a over boost control so you won't blow your motor if you develop a vacumn leak. It has a gear learn mode to. Some people don't like stepping motor's. I think it is just as fast as a selonoid controller. I think a manual controller is the safest though. Less thing's to $*% up.

Yea, John Page pretty much agreed with this. He said 9.5 - 10 PSI would put me at about 595 rwhp. The controller would be there for 2 settings: 8 psi and 10 psi (when its off, it would be at my current 6psi). I don't see myself trying to find or even pay for race gas.

Actually I hear the crank would take more than that. But J.P doesn't seem to feel that there would be a problem with stock internals and that 595 rwhp should be ok. I asked him to be honest, to tell me if I was pushing the envelope. He didn't think I was - he's done one like this (an LS1 without forged internals) for someone and is doing the same thing with his LS6. Forging is always an option but more for safety as I could probably only get another 1.5 psi with forged. But I don't want to screw anything up either. Still, its a tough call to forge on this.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I found both, EVC PRO and EVC V. The PRO $200 more than their EVC V. Is there any true benefit to this spec (excuse my ignorance) or is this going to be useless in my application

Boost curves can be programmed to variables such as, engine rpm and throttle position or vehicle speed. For example, when the vehicle begins to accelerate, boost levels will be at a preset level. As the vehicle gets into higher rpm range, the EVC Pro can be programmed to raise the boost level as the vehicle’s speed increases. This would limit lower rpm wheel spin while maintain full power potential at the higher RPMs. A built-in atmospheric pressure sensor (ATM) provides enhanced consistency in boost pressure regardless of various atmospheric conditions.

Do NOT get a EBC PRO it will have you so screwed up. It reads in KPA only. The only boost controller's HKS sells in psi is the ebc v and the ez ebc. KPA is a whole other ball game.

Oh yea, I just saw that. I could see where .3 bars would be unintelligible. I wonder if the EVC V has that same feature where you can regulate boost throughout the band?. The manufac was saying how this benefit could be used to control tire spin at the low end.

Mark- I am using the Blitz, dual solonoid, sequential boost controller. The controller has four preset boost levels and OFF which defaults to YOUR current 6 lbs of boost. A total of five presets is way too many for your application. Three settings is plenty for the street. I was out in my car today in the heat, tweeking and noting boost levels etc. to determine where I wanted my presets. Basically, I am at 8, 10, and 11.8 using pump fuel. Remaining settings for 50/50 fuel mix and 100% race fuel if I get crazy later this year. There is a buzzer aural alert and if you persist much past the buzz a limiter will remove some boost and protect you from yourself if you know what I mean. FYI, all these boost settings will work in reverse gear as well. I know that fact is important to you after reading your post asking that very question. I'm learning about these controllers as well as you and there are others out there to aid you and I in making future decisions. Good Luck

This is good to know
