I was wondering how many people have installed their own supercharger versus having someone else do it? On one hand it seems like a pretty difficult job to tackle but on the other it's a little lame to just pay to have the work done. The scariest part I see is drilling holes in the crankshaft. What are everyones thoughts on this? Also, what are the labor costs usually?
Ine install itself is not that hard. Pinning the crank can be a pain without a lift if you have not done it before. The biggest challenge is getting the car properly tuned. Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions. :seeya

:iagree:
I installed my Magnuson S/C myself, no problem. I put the front of the car on jack stands to pin the crank and that was the only difficult part of the job but it only took a couple of hours
Pinning the crank is a PIA. You may be able to get a local shop to pin it for you. Since you will have the balancer off it would be a good time to install the 8 rib balancer too.
If you are half way compatent and not even as a mechanic, you can install the Magnacharger. It comes with great instructions as long as you can read you'll be fine. Also you must have the obvious tools. You can see at LPE website for instruction download in adobe. I did mine originally and later had 21 Century do heads and cam.

Hi guys,
Why is pinning the crank such a pain? Is there a lot of parts removal or is it just difficult to get in there with the drill to drill the holes?
If it's the drilling aspect, I have a high powered dremel with a flexible shaft, would that help at all?
Also, what's involved with going to the 8 rib setup? My tuner recommended this highly. How does this interact with the MMS bracket?
I installed mine with help from my CF friends... some 30 hours later I had really wished I had paid someone else to do it... I did learn a lot about the system though... Eventually, every piece of the ATI kit that I had installed had been taken off and replaced with a new/better piece.. there goes $6,000 out the window!
Chris,
I've heard good things about your business and have a couple of questions. Do you install Magnachargers?
How much are your labor or package prices?
Is there a tuning included or do you just use the reprogram provided in the kit?
Do you include a new painted hood?
Do you offer a warranty?
Would there be a discount if I was having other things done such as rear end gears and exhaust?
Thanks!

Re: supercharger install (crom)
I did not do the install, simply because I don't have enough free time. :mad The standard supercharger install from my tuner was $1200 and tuning was extra.
I did my own ATI from A & A. About halfway though it hit me how much easier the magnusun would have been. But I'm happy now its done. I did my own because there is noone around here I would trust with my car and now if something goes wrong I should be able to better understand and fix it. Took about 25-30 hours for everything including fuel pump, gauges, ati and pin the crank and cost about $100 in tools. Drilling the crank is easier than taking the lug nuts off your car, its moving that rack that will kill you! Its amazing what you can do with four jackstands and a printed set of intructions from the internet!
I installed my Vortech myself. I was a little intimidated to tear into my then new 2000 mile car but it wasn’t a big deal at all. It took me a little longer because I had never worked on a C5 or LS series engine. If you have some experience and mechanical aptitude you can install the ATI, Magnuson, or Vortech.
The current kits are quite good but still may need a little bit of fiddling and fitting to make right.
I installed my Vortech myself. It was quite a job for as out of shape guy like
myself. I'm glad I did though. Very pleased with myself and the supercharger too!
