i THINK some cars still have probs with the msd in 4 cylinder mode due to a signal being sent to the window switch that is just a tiny bit below volts or amperage that the switch needs to function properly. If I remember correctly, it isn't a fault of the window switch, it just happens to work for most of us.
SilverState:
When did I say the 03's were different? I know for a fact that the 03's require the MSD window switch be rewired. I am not sure about other years so i listed what I know was true. Sounds like you are a little insecure with your 02.
Talk is cheap. Let's do it this way. The PSCA is hosting an event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend. I will run you with my MSD window switch setup on 4 cylinder mode, and you can use your rewired MSD. If I win, you give me your nitrous bottle. If you win, I will give you mine. We'll see who goes home feeling insecure. :boxing
We'll be able to prove whether the MSD Window Switch MUST be sent out to be rewired, or whether it works just fine in 4-cyl mode.
You're the one talking about being insecure. I'm willing to take the "pepsi" challenge in front of thousands of people at the West Coast's biggest head-up event.

Re: MSD Window switch (SilverStateZ06)
What are the symptoms of the MSD window switch needing to be modified for an LS1/LS6?
I had a little trouble with the system not working when I was in 4th gear the other day at stupid speeds. I have never felt trouble before in 2nd or 3rd but as I was pushing it a little in 4th and I wanted to see how quick I could get to the rev limiter and it seemed to cut out and not work! I was a little worried, and waited to try again in the lower gears and no trouble, even picked on an Camaro SS with a very loud exhaust and all was fine. I have not had a chance to do the high MPH run again. So, I am worried that that I may be "right on the edge" of woking. Oh, by the way, all my conections are solders and have heat shrink, so I do not believe it is a loose wire.
Any input from anyone who had to have this mod done please let me know what you felt/saw with it.
Thanks.
Sure it's the window switch? Might want to make sure your traction control was off, make sure your bottle was full, make sure you had enough gas in the tank, make sure your fuel pressure safety switch wasn't cutting your unit off due to lack of fuel pressure, make sure your solenoids are working properly, make sure there is no debris blocking either side at the fogger, etc.
Do you have a fuel pressure guage you can watch while you are on the unit? Might also want to check AutoTap while you are on the unit and watch your O2 #s and/or for knock retard. A rear wheel dyno with a wideband would be the best - just hate to see you go lean on the unit. You didn't happen to bump up timing or lean your a/f ratio before installing the unit without tuning on a wideband? Also, make sure you weren't bouncing off the rev limiter.

Re: MSD Window switch (SilverStateZ06)
I have had the car on a WB dyno (3 weeks ago at Diablo in Delray) and I am running very safe on the juice, a little under 11 A/F (12.2 A/F off the juice). I gained 96 RWHP with nitrious (100 shot) and a boat load of RWTQ, about 170. Fuel pressure looked steady, and the system is working fine, oddly enough, in the lower gears. I had never "hit it" before in the upper end of 4th, so was surprised to feel it cut out. I have not had an Autotap hook up since my dyno run, but may need to make sure about knock, just in case. As far as traction control, my car is always in Comp mode, but always a good thing to check. The only "unknown" item would be the window switch, and after hearing from MSD that the LS1/LS6 need the mod, I am now wondering if mine may be on edge. Who knows... I will Autotap a high speed run and see what I see.
Thanks for the response.
Sounds like you have most of your bases covered - maybe it's just pulling timing.
I had a situation where I set my a/f ratio at 12.9 on the motor with a very free flowing exhaust setup. I put the recommended NX jets for a 75 shot and the car ran really hard (twice) at the track. I LATER put it on a wideband, and to my surprise, I was REALLY lean (mid 13s on the unit). Glad I only squeezed twice. Seems like the recommended jets are for a car with stock a/f ratio, not one that has already been leaned out - and obviously, the leaner you are, the more chance of detonation, knock retard, pulled timing, etc. And that's if you are lucky. So that's why I asked about all those things.

Re: MSD Window switch (SilverStateZ06)
I am actually a big chicken on doing anything that "may" hurt my car, that's why I had it checked on the dyno, better safe then "opps"! I will do an Autotap run at the higher speeds and see what I see. Just not sure why it would have only happened in 4th. I am thinking of hooking up a light in parallel with the relay input voltage (to see if voltage is turning on the relay) and running that into the passenger compartment . That should tell me if the window switch was having issues or not, or at least that power is getting to the relay. I will keep the board informed.
Has anyone actually had problems with the MSD window switch that were "cured" with the LS1/LS6 mod? Just wondering... Or is this a BS mod to get an extra $35.00 out of me.
I spent the extra $35 and have this same issue with my nitrous kit. It hits great in 1st, 2nd and 3rd but doesn't hit in 4th. It ran perfect on the dyno in 4th so I don't understand what's up. What's strange is if I leave it in 4th on the freeway and then spray it hits harder then if I were to run it up through the gears through 4th.
