Default Someone teach me about Nitrous.

How does it work? How do you control the shot's? Do you set it to kick in at certain RPM's? Do you only use it at the track? How long does it last? What's a fill cost?

 Thanks in advance.

How does it work?
On a dry kit, N2O is sprayed before the mass air flow sensor, essentially tricking the computer into thinking its lean. This will cause the computer to flood the injectors as the n2o is sucked into the cylinders. On a wet system fuel and N2O is sprayed near the throttle body through a fogger nozzle. This causes the n2o and fuel to atomize together. This combination is then sucked into the cylinder. N2O in itself is not flammable, however when combined with fuel the combination is quite explosive. Nitrous in itself comes out of the bottle at -40 degrees. This temperature of n2o creates cooler, more dense, air in the cylinder head. When added with fuel this cooler explosion creates lots of cylinder pressure, which equates to lots of torque.

How do you control the shot's?
The shot is controlled by jet in a nozzle

Do you set it to kick in at certain RPM's?
Some people use a window switch which will allow the ground to be completed between 2 RPM points. This is not a necessity as I do not run a window switch. This is a good safety device for a newbie; especially if you are not good at shifting

Do you only use it at the track?
I use it on the street. I have a remote bottle opener, which make improptu street races much more fun

How long does it last?
How big a shot you are running will decide on how long a bottle fill lasts. I get about 8-9 1/4 mile runs on a 100 shot or 4-5 1/4 mile runs on a 150 shot

What's a fill cost?
Normally between $3.00- $4.00 a lb

Just going to say, since you live up here (Alberta), it costs $7-$7.50 a lb to fill. :cuss :D

Lots of good info in this thread

I have one question to add: What are the pros and cons of adding nitrous to a supercharged C5?

TIA :D

The standard bottle is 10#.. You can upgrade to a 12# carbon fiber or a 15# steel.

When you say what is it worth.. I am assuming you want to know what it costs. You can get a basic system for about $500.00 US. Then there is all the upgrades. Its easy to spend another $1000.00 on upgrades. You MUST also change your plugs to copper plugs. Platnums burn too hot for N2O.
