Default Intake Advice

I'm thinking of putting an intake on my 99 vert while it's in the garage this winter (just put it up Thanksgiving Day :cry ). I want to do it myself, since it'll give me the feeling that at least I'm doing something with the car. I've just started looking for intakes, and was wondering if anybody has any advice on which would be the best with my setup. My mods so far are in my sig.

I've found a couple:

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...90&prmenbr=361

http://www.madvet.com/-/shop?frame=1.36

Any pros/cons to these two? Any better ones out there? TIA for any help.

I have not heard anything good about the holley.

You might want to look into this http://www.popularhotrodding.com/tech/phr_0309_fast/ expensive but nice. I know http://www.thunderracing.com sells it and other vendors may also have it. They claim a 15hp gain over the ls6 intake.

If you are going to go with the ls6 intake, save some money and get it here http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results...umber=88894339

 Now that's what I'm talking about. That seems like an intake that can stick with me as I keep building the engine. Has anyone out there tried one of these yet to give an opinion?

Thanks for the suggestion, QuickSilver.

Forget the holley it is alum and a virtual heatsink, all of our tuners have tried them and would not use one, my tuner lost considerable power as the metal gets hot heats the air and you loose charge. cold air means more in the hole, hot air expands and you get less charge in the hole, the other intake is an ls6 intake which gives very little for the money--wait on the FAST intake that should be out in the next couple of months it is giving significant power and it can be ported and can grow with your other mods---the price of this unit will be in the 850 range but reportedly gives 15rwhp across the board over the ls6 intake manifold, more on strokers using larger TB's. there are numerous sheetmetal intakes available in the 3 to 5K range but are high rpm manifold that are not very useful on the street--

Thanks, NeptuneBill. I had pretty much decided to go with the FAST intake. It looks like a badazz intake that can grow with the engine.

One other question. I notice that the intake comes for either a 78mm or 90mm TB. Should I go with the larger TB? I plan on forging the engine and adding heads and cam and switching to a D1 head and cranking up the boost eventually. I'll probably stay with the stock 346ci, though. Is the larger TB for a larger cube stroker engine, or would it be a good idea for what I plan to do?

That one is probably over my head, FI is a funny thing when you have a pump forcing a charge in the hole it doesn't necessarily need the same intake goodies that a NA app would need to draw more charge, however it would seem that the more ability to flow would benefit anyone including a blower rig and if you are turning up the boost it seems like the more you can flow as usual the better, I would think the 90 would be way overkill on stock and maybe even just H/C but with the blower it could be a real boost (no pun intended)--funny I went through the same decision you are making a year ago (less choices in Andy type goodies then) and after pricing stuff the diff in a forged 346 and a forged 436 was the price of the crank--so I decided to go NA stroker and no more belts and plumbing, now of course with the single IC eliminating and refining the plumbing and Andy's new belt tentioner setup I am hoping with maybe the F1 unit I may be able to pump a few pounds to the stroker, of couse for thousands more bucks--so I am going to see if I can get 550rwhp out of the stroker NA and that is probably 100 more rwhp than these damn cars can handle, the drivetrains (even the reinforced ones ) cannot handle the hard launch for long, I have one of Rodneys tranny's I'm putting in and a 390HD rearend and still think I can easily break them as some of the other guys do it all the time--Patrick at Vararam told me he has a 105mm TB that will mount on the 90mm FAST and he has it at 165% eff but I have not heard back from him so I will probably end up with the FAST 90mm tb and let my tuner do his magic on it---I look forward to seeing what you come up with, good luck with your choices as you know they are all expensive---
