supercharger pros and cons

I have been looking at the magnuson or the ati procharger.
What are the pros and cons of going with a (roots type supercharger Magnuson) or a centrifugal type like the ati.
The only mod i have ara a corsa indy exhaust .
I want to gain up to 500 hp, i am not looking to race my c5 i do not want to loose any reliablity or damage the engine.
What is my best option.
Also i was looking at doing the install my self but after looking at some of the gudes on the net the ati looks like i might have a shot of doing the install.
Otherwise does anyone know of a good installer/tuner in the bostn mass area.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
It's also on sale for $4995

I see you are new, when Andy says 500rwhp, that is approximately, 600HP.
By the way, Andy is THE MAN! I only wish I had purchased my setup from him! :yesnod:

andy i just looked at your site looks great.
How difficult and how log does it take to install your supercharger.
We have been going back and forward via email last week. I have decided to go with your system and I would like to know how long the $4995 price is valid for. I won't be able to install it until March when the weather breaks. How can I hold this price until then. Also have you made the changes to the intercooler as we discussed? Do you have pics yet?
Thanks,
Matt

I would have started out with the Headers and 3 inch exhaust, and undersized the pulley to maintain the designed psi. The engine will run cooler with modest power improvement. Have it tuned on site, this is a requirement with this mod.
500rwhp would be difficult without internal mods, but the blower feels like huge power when the engine is spinning less than 3500RPM. In fact I would leave street tires on to save the drive train. 0-60 can be life threatening if you are not careful.

I wish I had something to mention here about the install, but alas, I have been sick as a dog for like 2 weeks! :( I hope to start doing some more work on the car next week.
I don't really see anything too hard about the install, maybe just a few "tricky" things:
1. Need to pin the crank. I have an A4 and it'll be a little harder than an M6, but hopefully nothing too serious.
2. Need to see a welder to move the lower radiator mount. Not a big deal for a welder, but be ready to drain the system (might as well put in a new 160 T-stat & adj. fan settings while you're at it) and then trim up the supplied hoses from Andy to make everything fit once moved into the new position. Many others here have done this and I'm sure they'll chime in.
3. Andy's kit has a TON fewer pieces than ATI's or Vortech's!! I'm pretty sure I have them all, but won't know for sure about the "little stuff" until I truly commence the install.
4. Pay the extra $$'s now and have Andy put on the Vortech Race BoV, the ATI unit STINKS!!! You'll be glad you did, just ask DIYNOOB for his opinions or read them yourself elsewhere in this section.
5. TUNING!!! This is the one item that will be a must after the install. Look into this before you even bother to turn a wrench.
6. Do not forget the boost & fuel pressure gauges! These are also a must, I did the install and wrote about it elsewhere. If you need add'l info or pix please let me know.
7. You'll need a set of 42# injectors (minimum), but I went with 48's for a little extra headroom for future mods.
8. You may/may not need to upgrade the fuel system with a setup like Racetronix. I bought it, DIYNOOB recently installed it and many feel it's a must. Though a few might chime in that it's not really necessary for all applications. Speak to a few people that are blown to get more opinions.
Whelp, I think I said enough. Don't hestiate to get an S/C and perform the install, simply take your time and tap on your buddies here on the Forum for advice......... THAT'S WHAT I DO!!!

Someone mentioned headers, I don't know that headers are going to make so much of a difference with a S/C motor. Have been told it doesn't but not sure for myself yet. Anyone have something intelligent to say about that?
Andy, I remember buying my "roller thingy's" from you back in 2000. Glad to see you are doing so well.
