Default Why 4 cyclinder mode?

Why do i run the MSD RPM switch in four cyclinder mode when it has an eight cyclinder mode?
Please don't get too technical, i would just like to know :steering:

since our cars have coil packs instead of a distributor, there is a controller for each side of the motor. So when you tap into the tach wire, you are getting either the drivers side or passenger side which controls only 4 coil packs. This is why you have to put it in 4 cyl. mode.
