Ordered the Z06 valve springs from GMPartsDirect.com -- total including shipping came just under $100. eBay had them for $50 and claims they were new but I'd rather not take any chances on engine internals.

My local dealer wanted $140 for the set.
 Any luck with the install write-up? I checked LS1howto and it said they had one on the way...

They didn't have a Vette specific valve spring writeup, but the rocker writeup http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=21 and the FBody cam/valve spring writeup http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=23 looks like it covers just about everything.

I supposed I might put on aftermarket rockers while I'm in there...

What year ZO6 springs did you get???

Is there a difference in the valve springs (pressure rate, strength) used in the 2001 ZO6 compared to 2002 and newer??? They do have different part numbers...

Thanks for catching me on this one SideStep  I ordered the older springs from GMPartsDirect.com. As you mentioned to me in IM (and as I confirmed with a local dealer), the right part number for 2002+ Z06 springs is 12565313. The 2002+ Z06 springs are indeed stronger to accomodate the more aggressive cam found in the 2002+ Z06s.

If you ultimately discern it is the valve springs, you may want to look into "beehive" springs. I read a TERRIFIC tech article about these springs and they sounds absolutely killer.

I don't know for sure if they have them for LS1 heads, but you can be sure if my car starts to demonstrate the same problems I will be looking into these springs. There were several benefits listed for this design.

Keep us posted on your findings! You've got to be closing in on your lost HP.

Here is what I was told by a local shop and it seems to make sense. I have not experienced this on my 02 which still has the stock springs.

What I was told is that boost, which to a certain extent, applys pressure to the back of the valves can effectively offset some of the valve spring pressure. The actual amount of pressure that is being exerted on the back of the valve has to do with size of the area that the boost pressure is acting on. Supposedly this is seen more on LS1s (expecially those with some miles on them).

I don't know if this is true but is what I was told.
I think that's what I said in an earler post, the pressure exerted on the intake valve is aprox. 21 lbs @ 7lbs boost.
If you have overstressed the springs by any means or overheated the engine I would check the seat pressure and if it's not near the recommended pressure I would replace the springs!!!!!!!!
Just look at the simple things first before changing springs or a bunch of things at the same time.
Personally I don't like to spend money or time on the shotgun approach fixing cars.
