There was nothing wrong with the supercharger. After looking at it Vortech called me to tell. After the s/c came back I installed it thinking all would be o.k. Well the noise was still there and because the tech that assembled it put
one of those retainers that secures the volute to the gearcase across the
area that is machined out to accomodate the p/s pulley,I tore up the p/s pulley when I started the engine. It will have to be replaced. The s/c has
bolt holes for three of those retainers, one on each side and one at the
bottom, however it didn't come with one at the bottom (when new) because
there is a half moon shaped cutout machined in that area so that the p/s
pulley will not rub the s/c. The dummy that assembled my s/c didn't realize
that and I didn't spot it until after I had destroyed the p/s pulley. I removed the s/c,spotted the problem, removed the retainer and re-installed the s/c.
Thats how I know the noise that prompted me to send it out is still there.
I slipped the belt off the drive pully on the back of the s/c and started the engine and verified that the noise is comming from somewhere else.I will have to remove the s/c and run the engine to track down the culprit. It could
be an idler pulley or maybe the p/s pump itself. Who the heck knows,I'll have
to go the major deal of changing the p/s pulley anyway so I'll get the opportunity to check it out when the pully comes in and I have it apart. :U
Just wasn't my day. :nopity
My Vortech destroyed several belts before we got it lined up correctly. I had several pulleys destroyed by chunks of shredded belt wrapping around them and ruining the bearings. I bet you'll find you have a bad pulley. Phil at DTE ended up using a slightly shorter serpentine belt than the one Vortech supplied with the kit. You have to watch hitting the rev limiter with a belt thats a little loose also. When it starts to oscillate on the limiter, it'll jump off.
Good Luck,
BTW: Vortech's customer service also leaves a lot to be desired.
