Default SC vs. Reliability

My Z06 is my daily driver... I've heard when you supercharge an engine the reliablity goes out the window. Would you recommend putting a supercharger on a car that's got to be highly reliable?

Thanks

Keep it under 500 RWHP and reliability shouln't be an issue.

all blown motors need forged internals if you want them to last...especially if you are gonna take it to the limit...just my two cents....p.s. you will also need a very strong clutch...not a single disc either...again...just my two cents...my car broke...the stock motor could definately use a little less compression for blown induction...good luck...

I've been running a SC for almost 3 years now. I've been through many issues with mine. Some were because I had to break ground with some of the mods I was doing, and some were and are that I drive the Hell out of my car. I have also chosen to push the limits, which means more potential problems.

With the kits now having been out a while, I believe you could do your homework and keep the power and boost down, and then have minimal issues. There are many more things to be concerned with when putting a blower on.... Belts, fuel, clutch, and ultimately TRACTION :D

I have found it neccesary to become handy with a wrench
Good luck,
JB

I don't think it's so much the power, it's how you use it. A stocker taken to the track all the time is a lot more likely to fail than a 400 rwhp car that's just driven around town. And, some of it is just plain old luck.

If you stick with the "roots" type blower (Magnacharger) you are less likely to have major issues. Afterall, this blower is being routinely used by both Ford and GM in various S/C cars/trucks they sell to the masses. However, with this blower there will be some trade offs for its reliability. You will not get the "crazy" HP that one can get from a Vortech or ATI set-up. However, the Magnacharger for a "street" application is wonderful because the torque curve comes early and stays flat, flat ,flat.

I've had mine about 3 years and it gets me back and forth to work and the store just fine. I carry spare bearings and belt but haven't had to use them. I don't drive slow. You only live once.
