Had an ls6 put in a year ago (wreck paid for it) and a dynotune had to be done. Got the bug for nitrous this year. After researching I got the kit and its installed but I havent ran it yet wanting to make sure there are no mechanical issues and all is good. looking to run a 100 shot.
According to the instructions you should not have custom tuning where they usually advance timing and if anything for nitrous it needs to retarded. Im in school so after buying the nitrous and all the extras a dynotune would most likely kill me so the whole setup would have to be eyecandy a while How would I go about checking the timing and what is a safe setting for it if running a 100 shot? and is there a cheaper way to retard timing?
I would see if you can find someone in your area with AutoTap/EFILive/Other scanner and log a couple runs on your car to see where you are on timing.
Honestly, I would scrape the cash together and buy a scanner so you can get detailed info on how your car is running, if you have Knock retard now, without the nitrous and then go from there.
The word I keep hearing is that with a 100 shot if your timing stock is okay, you will probably be okay w/o removing timing. YMMV. It really depends on who you talk to though.
Thanks for the info. Hopefully someone in my club already has an autotap and Ill look into it. Im also thinking about the timing tuner, a device that when activated tricks the computer to retard timing to user defined parameters as seen here http://www.lmperformance.com/2565/4.html
Its still expensive but about 50$ cheaper than a dyno tune and the car will still have the better timing when off the nos, but still got to wait till I stumble upon some cash.
Does anyone know where to find a cheaper version of this? Is anyone here using this??
You will be just fine with the 100 shot without haveing to take any timimg out .What you do need to do is make sure that you have a set of NGK TR6 spark plugs installed gaped at .37. I would start with the 50 shot so that you will know what it feels like, then move on to the 75 shot and then put the 100 shot in and enjoy the ride
