Has anyone made a custom turbo kit? Turbo kits are alot of money and I was wondering if anyone as made a custom kit? I now that it is not that hard to do. You can get a set of new supra turbos for $1100, I can make the piping for also free, and the intercoolers you can get off Ebay for 100 each used. What do you use for turnning LS1 edit? Also on the map sensor side/ throttle body, does the map sensor read boost?
thanks

Its not a matter of getting the parts it about putting them into a package that FITS into a corvette. If you have ever worked on one you will know what I am talking about.
I would think the only issue is the exhaust manifolds, which you can buy. If you have pics of other systems you can just copy that. What I'm worried about is the computer tuning/fuel management
What are you talking about,,,,,,,,,there is a LOT of room......OUTSIDE THE CAR

custom turbo kits are easy on some cars (not on a c5). I don't think anyone has done a DIY turbo kit on a c5. Shops with skilled fabricators have done it, but it takes them many long hours to get the fitment issues worked out (and these are people who have done it on other cars many times before).
looks like it will be easier to buy a blower... But does anyobe know what you use for fuel managment? is it like the FMU votec uses on the mustangs? Or is it all computer controlled?
You reprogram the PCM. It has flash memory so you just hookup to the diagnostic port and download the new calibration. There are several tuning packages out that can do this. ls1edit, hptuners, efilive (releasing tuning capability soon). The fueling in the pcm is mainly MAF based and it can read up to about 500rwhp, you can then tune by RPM after the MAF maxes and it gets the job done (not ideal, but it works).
You almost always need bigger injectors and a more capable fuel pump when adding boost.
The best bet for someone new to the ls1 is to take the car to a ls1 FI aware tuner and have them dyno tune the car.
Yeah, I thought about doing a custom turbo kit, but was talked out of it by the forum members. Thanks guys, I glad you did. I didn't realize what I was getting into. Now I'm going for an ati kit. Thats seems to be the best bet. Much cheaper, easier and more documented with similar results.
have you looked at this? Seems far from an optimal setup to me, but with some custom fab and used parts, you can be there in $1000 or less. http://www.ststurbo.com
