Default Finally blown!

I finally got my corvette together! Here is a quick rundown of my mods:

MMS/ATI supercharger with 3.85" pulley
224/233 .560 115ls cam (comp 918 springs)
TPIS headers with "very high performance" cats, quiet B&B catback
LS6 intake & Janzter ported TB (awesome piece)
Voltblaster @ 15.4v (slick little device, super cheap and easy to install)
Delphi 38# injectors
ETune dyno tune

On the dyno I put down 520rwhp , 460rwtq @ 6200rpm (11.8:1 AF, 14 degrees timing). The cam makes power up to 6800rpm, but apparently my injectors and/or fuel system are in need of upgrade. Just as I hit my peak HP@6200rpm the AF drops from 11.8 to 12.2, even though the injectors are static. I'll throw a FP gauge on the car later to isolate the problem.

I couldn't be happier with the tune, the car runs super smoothly, starts easily, and generally has stock drivability. The blower kit is really quiet and smooth too, much more so than I thought it would be. Overall I'm really happy!

My next mods will be to pin the crank, upgrade the clutch (it's stock), and get a set of 3.90s and/or a MN12 tranny. I'll probably connect a boost gauge too so I can see where I stand, but Mike was guessing around 7psi. Hopefully some track times coming soon! I need to beat all these local A&A guys...

ps, California 91 octane gas is a real bitch. On 93 octane I bet I could run another 2-3 degrees of timing and pickup a bit of power. Will we ever get normal gas here???

Congrats Terry!! I have to say I was quite surprised to read some items of your post:

1. You didn't pin the crank first.
2. You don't have a boost gauge (not really "critical" but..)
3. You're only running 38# injectors.

But I guess so long as the dyno looks good (A/F ratio) then you're in GREAT shape. Lemme axe you a question - What's the "voltblaster"? I'm not familiar with this mod.

Enjoy your newfound power!

I'm surprised the crank pulley's not on the floor by now.

Wouldn't it have been easier to pin the crank before installing the blower, never mind safer? Hypothetically, would there be damage if the balancer has already shifted and you now pin it in the wrong position? Is the stock fuel pump reliable enough to handle a blower? Yikes, personally I'd park it and play catch up now before something bad happens.

I'm in the same boat. Have you watched what your fuel pressure does during 6000+ RPM? You are probably correct about the 38lb injectors with the ATI and Cam being to small. I'm somewhat in the same boat. I've ordered a Racetronix fuel pump because my pressure is falling from 60 to 45 lbs at about 6100 RPM, so it is possible that after upgrading it, I may still need to replace my 42 lb injectors with 50 lb injectors.

Good luck and great numbers!!!

Here is a pic of the voltblaster:
http://members.aol.com/terencevv/mycars/vp.jpg

Basically it hooks up in 2-3 min, it has a ground, hot wire, tps wire, and alternator connection. At WOT it raises the alternator voltage a preset amount, I have mine set for 1.2v now (so I get 15.4 at WOT). This in turn makes all your electrical motors (e.g. fuel pump) spin harder, and as a fun side effect your headlights get brighter too... It was around $75.

No gauge yet but that is a great idea, I suspect I'll find my FP dropping too. I was going to crank the alternator voltage up on the dyno but I sort of ran out of time.

It's certainly possible, but I tend to be a bit of a minimalist and don't mind reasonable risk. I'm going to pin the crank because it's a potential problem, but I think a lot of people hype it up a bit. I know people who have run this way for 1000's of miles with no problems. On the other hand I'm sure there is someone out there who didn't get through one revolution of the engine before it all blew apart.

I'm not sure how reliable the stock fuel pump is, but I have a scientific background so I love testing things. So car I'm impressed, the stock fuel pump with the volt blaster can support at least 520rwhp @ 11.8 AF. I'm pretty comfortable with that AF ratio, although when I get a FP gauge connected I'll know for sure if its the pump or injectors that are limiting me.
