Went to the auto-x track for first time yesterday (motor sport ranch by Ft. Worth, TX). See my sig for mods. I have no previous auto-x experience. I was holding my own against some modded Vipers and a TT porsche. The problem was I started overheating after only 6-10 laps (1.7 miles - some elevation changes). Oil temp went to 260+, tranny fluid went to 279, and coolant temp went to 240. I know the high tranny temps are due to it being an A4. I know a solution is to get a tranny cooler and larger, aluminum radiator. I just want to know if these temps are typical for you other blown guys under auto-cross conditions.
I think what you are seeing is normal with stock cooling components under those conditions. You need a bigger radiator + oil, trans and diff coolers.
I'm sure the extra HP is adding to the heat, but I don't think it is just the blower causing the problem. There are some small things that would help. Do you have the stock cast manifolds on the car? Have you reprogrammed the fans to come on earlier. What type of coolant mix are you running?
What do you see under normal driving with some spirited sprints?
I have done some small auto-x events and not had any heat problems, but I'm not sure what would happen after 1.7 miles of beating on it at low speeds in Texas heat with stock cooling.
