Default 2002 ZO6 Cam

I'm having a Vortech installed on my '01 ZO6 Vette. Andy (A&A Corvettes) & Terry Burger both suggested I use the '02 ZO6 cam. Is the cost worth it, or should I consider a different grind? I do want to be able to pass California emissions. TIA.

Rick

From what I have heard here on the forum, you can go up up to a 224 cam and with good tuning pass the test-however I do not have any personal experience with it.
A cam that I have read about in a few threads that is interesting to me is the 220/220/.581/114 or 115 Comp Xer. That might be a good trade off to emissions/power. I have heard that a 218 cam will pass almost always and a lot of relatively radical cams have passed with a super tuners best efforts!
My feeling is that if you are going to the expense of a blower, a good relatively short duration. high lift cam (more aggressive than the ZO6) without a lot of overlap would be good to pop in there during the install.
I'm sure there are a lots of guys with directly applicable experience who will chime in!
However, Andy is the man and he knows your situation/car/desires so I would place the most credence in his recommendation-I know I did!

I always thought one of the big selling points of FI is that you don't need to tear apart the motor and put in a different cam.

Cheers,

Mark

Hey Rick, I shot you an email re: the springs you need. Since you're doing the shortblock anyway it makes sense to spend another $250 and do the '02 Z06 cam/comp 918s.

But is it really only another $250? I was quoted $1,000 to install H/C.

A cam install is not nearly as complex as a complete head/cam install; therefore, it is cheaper.

I originally purchased an '02 Z06 cam and I still have it sitting in the garage. I decided if I was going to get into the engine, I wanted to get something which would give a little lope. . .I went with the 224/224 114 setup from Andy.

If you are interested in the Z06 cam, I will sell it to you for $20 + shipping. I think I paid $100 for the cam?

What makes a H/C upgrade substantially more complex then a cam only install?
