Issue solved! Putting the Aeromotive check valve right near the fuel rail has no noticable ill effect. I am leaking a little fuel so I'll need to take apart the fittings and throw some more teflon tape on there before driving her again, though. You can see the check valve on the driver's side fuel rail -- it's the big black thing sitting between the other fittings on the braided line.
