Default High revving motor?

I was curious how many people have higher revving LS1/6's, how high, and what did you do to get there?

I was reading that bore is the way you want to go if you want a bigger motor and a high redline, I guess so piston speeds stay down? What kind of speeds can you reach with what set ups? 7000? 7500? 8000? What does the powerband look like on these setups?

How high can you go safely on a basically stock LS1 (say, if you put in a cam that can take advantage of a higher peak)?

This is just for future reference, I have a thing for high revving motors and I can imagine a big V8 sounds beautiful at high speeds.

EDIT: Shoot, can someone move this to C5 Tech. I didnt realize I was in FI.

I agree bore is the way to go for high rev engines. But, with 6 gears you don't need it. If you have an A4 then its helpful but then again the ratios are not change able yet to take advantage of the extended power curve.

Some feedback;

Stroke
Keeping the stroke stock is good, piston speed with a 3.622" stroke at 6200rpm is 3,742ft/minute (4"=4,133ft/min, 4.25"=4,391ft/min).

Reciprocating weight
Piston and rod weight affect it as well. Stock LS1 piston & pin is 600.7grams, stock rod is 609.1g, stock crank is 52lbs. Stock rods have been known to bend under detonation.

For comparison, Diamond forged piston & pin 521g, Eagle H-rod 660g, Lunati crank is 45lbs.

Valvetrain
Stock springs can cause valve float and boost also counteracts (intake) spring pressure. Stock rods have been known to bend, especially with cam change and stiffer valve springs.

Good info! So basically you keep the stroke stock and lighten and strengthen the drivetrain. What kind of RPMs can you see if you build the motor like this? How about a stock motor, how high can you go safely?
